Your worst nightmare...
TOYO proxes R888- Pics

Last time I went to E-town I truly discovered how important it is to have good tires, and what better tires than the new and Improved Toyo R888.

They are the replacement for the RA1, the tires are highly recommended by Sleeper X, he referred me to his source for a good discount so I went and bought the 2 rears. I paid an arm and a leg, $410 a pop to be exact, but from what I hear these babies are made of R compound and are supposed to be a good improvement over the RA1, it's like wrapping your tires with Glue, just look at that massive amount of rubber.... Can't wait to put them on. I am putting these because after I install all my goodies I will need everything I could get to launch the beast.

If they are like the RA1's, make sure you roast um on the burnout. Everyone will give ya ***** at the track for the longer burnout, but it's worth it.

SleeperX: I don't drive my car in the rain so no worries, but are these alot better than PS2's for traction WITHOUT a burnout? What about treadwear... it's not a major concern, just wondering... thanks..

PS2s vs. RA1s = No comparison.. Toyo Ra1s are much better. And it looks like the Toyos that MIG just bought are even better than the RA1s.

No question about it - the tire will be much better at the track. But God help you if you get caught in the rain. I remember getting caught in the rain in my Z06 on the Goodyear F1 tires. Just keeping the car pointed straight was a challenge. I can only imagine what it would be like on those puppies.

Can't wait for you to tell us how you do at the strip.

Nice tires, you didn't mention the size, are they 285/30ZR/18Y? From their website the 275/35/18 is not listed? Will you use them for the track only or daily driving as well?

I don't have experience with the T1Rs, but my guess is that they aren't as sticky since they are not an R compound tire. Not a fair comparison in my opinion. I think the T1R is potentially in the same class as the PS2s. Both great tires, but not sticky.. When heated my RA1s have the cohesiveness of gum.

I hear you. I have used my wipers maybe 6 times since I took delivery of the car in August 2004. That's why it has less than 12k miles.

hmm... sounds interesting... The tread looks awesome on the t1r

since i live in sweden, i doubt i'd get much use of an R compound tire anyway. Its below 10degrees C (50 F) most of the year, with only a couple summer months above 20C (68F)... This year especially we've seen rain on and off, for some weeks every day (i think global warming has turned swedish weather english....)

Of course, when it drops below 7C (42F) i slap on the Michelin Alpines and bring on the snow!

Rocket: i wish i could roll around with tires like that!

narf,

i run the t1r's and they're QUITE impressive. i've bragged about them before and i'd be willing to wager that no 55 has better 60ft times on street tires than i do with 19" t1r's. hell, i'd bet not very many 55's have better 60ft times on r compounds or drag radials!

great, thanks. my tire guy wants to sell me T1Rs, but i wanted to hear if they had fared well for anyone here....

most seem to be PS2 fanboys without having tried anything else...

i replaced ps2's with the t1r's and as far as i'm concerned the t1r's are better in every way. they're even quieter and around half the price. we don't get much rain where i live but i just don't feel the need to run r compounds or drag radials over the t1r's for street use.

...but those r888's do look pretty sweet!

Thanks for the info.... im sure that aggressive tread will rock in the rain! Theres nothing better than storming past everyone else at 200km/h (130mi) in the pouring rain with two large fountains spraying from your rears....

I roll on T1r's and have to agree that they bite really good on the street, with good wet weather handling, we do get rain here almost every day in summer.
Still wo'nt do 200k's in pouring rain though, can't trust the water and with the wide contact patch its too risky.
About to replace my set with another of the same, I run 245's front and 275 rears.

dont trust the water, trust the tires, and worst case, the ESP.

Seriously though, on the highway, at 200, in the pouring rain, i get little jerks from the ESP, thats it... the car is rock solid...

stay away from big puddles though...

Yep, I forgot you were running T1Rs.. Toyos make great tires.
I agree with you on the PS2s. In my opinion, I think they are over rated.
