19X9.5's in the rear.. Correct tire size??
My E55 currently has 18x8.5's, 35 offset with 245/40/18's in the front and 18X9.5's ,38 offset 285/35/18's in the rear.. I'm upgrading to 19's but they are 8.5 with a 32 offset in the front and 9.5 and 35 offset in the rear. Can I still use 285's(285/30/19) or do I have to drop to 275's because of the offset. I really like the way the 285's fill the well. My suspension is lowered via the SDS so that u can barely get 2 fingers between the tires and wells now...Any input would be greatly appreciated.

"38 offset 285/35/18's in the rear"
You sure about that? If they are OEM, then they are 18X9et39.
Anyhow, I'm pretty sure you are going to be pushing it with the 285s. If you have a set and can test fit, I say try it. But honestly, I think it will rub on the ouside. The 275 will fill the well nicely, but you will have "wasted" room on the inside.
Maybe consider shaving the rims a bit? Depending on the make and model, a 4mm shave on the inside is usually very standard and that would put you into the 285/295 range. I dunno for a fact that a 19" 295 can work, but a 285 will for sure.

I took my OEM's off shortly after getting the car and put on Cl/SL65 style rims. That's why my 18's are 8.5 and 9.5's. they fit nicely but i was concerned about the 19's with the 35 instead in 38/39 in the rear... I like the fatter tire, plus it's better protection for the rim using the 285's. I'm afraid that they might rub like you said. Who can do shaving of the rims???

You can get the wheels shaved at any good machine / race shop. i have a great one down here, so I am a little more willing to try stuff.
19X10, I'd bet the offset is right at 40, if a 285 fits nicely.

8.5 fronts? Hmmmm, I better make sure my HREs aren't 8.5 on the front. They are supposed to be 9s.

I could probably go 295, but Im taking baby steps.
The wheels were initially made for a C32, so thats why the offsets are different, but they work perfectly for the E

My guess would be that you can go 295 in the rear, but not sure if you can do much else with the fronts. That is a pretty agressive offset for wider tires.
I love your setup. The silver on silver is such a nice match. You got lucky on the setup swapping over. You ever consider havving HRE rebuild them into 9 inch front and 10 inch rears?

Hey guys,
I just tried OEM SL65 wheels 255/35/19 , 30 offset in the front ,and 285/30/19, 31 offset in the rear and they fit my E perfectly. Thear rears just made it with that offset. They're tucked in pretty tightly. I don't think using these sizes for my rims will be a problem since I'll be running 32 & 35 offsets respectively... I saw 245's and 275's on the same widths and they just looked too small. It was as if the tires were being stretched to fit the rims.

Have you tried dropping it and running it? I would thinki 285s would rub with that offset on the outside over speed bumps. As a trick, I heard you could flip the 65 wheels around to get the offset a bit better.

I did run the car and drove over some secondary bumps with no problem... However, I didn't go over any speed bumps. Do you really think it'll rub over the bumps with the 32/35 setup? I didn't think there would be a problem since my buddy's SL wheels fit with the more aggressive offset. I'd like to buy the same Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires that he has. I currently have Goodyear Eagle F1DS' on my car.

The fronts should work with 255s, but no taller or wider.
The tires you are choosing are the best for clearance of the nicer tires, so you have the best odds of success. Good luck.

295s do not cause the wiggle. Having a tire that is too close to the inside (subframe) is what causes it. When you pin your car, the rear wheels toe in due to the TQ. That means that if your tire is close to the inside while standing still, it may flex enough to rub the inner part of the tire on the subframe. If that happens, you can tear up the tire = blow out under acceleration = ****!!
That is why proper offset and suspension support is so important when you start modding.

I can tell you that getting a 4" lip on an E and still running 285/295 is nearly impossible without some slight fender roll. That isn't to say it can't be done. I'm big on performance, so I don't get into those things. If that is your thing, I say try it until yuo get what you want. The wheel companies aren't interested in extreme fittments, since there are so many variables and they would end up having to troubleshoot. So, they just say it can't be done when it can.
Prime example, find a single wheel company willing to fit 9.5 inch rims in the front and run 275s. ALL of them will say it will rub and yet, I've fit tested a 275 on one AND run 275s on a 9 inch rim all the time. It is all about the demand.
When you guys start to demand wider tires on the front, wider rims will pop up. For now, they still get the exact same money from you and get you to run 255s.

Well I finally got the Potenza's RE050A's- 255/35/19's for the front and 285/30/19's for the rears and had them mounted on my '08 style CL/S 63 rims. Had no problems with either size rubbing even with my lowered suspension. The 32/35 offset that I have is perfect. I wonder if I could have gone with 295s in the rear? Looks like I have room to spare.

Very nice!! Let's see some pics. With that offset, I would only be concerned of the outside for 295s. If it looks like you have room, then it may work. I am running 9.5s et37 and there is very little room to spare, but no rubbing at all.

I'll put some pics up this weekend. Just got my car back late today from the dealer. The trans control unit was replaced. By the time I got home it was a little too late for pics. I'll definitely try to post some this weekend....
