IPod and Bluetooth
Had my E55 wagon in the dealer today for some warranty work and asked about the IPod adapter and Bluetooth. My car doesn't have any phone at all.
$995 for the IPod and $2950 for the Phone.
Both seem out of line high. The IPod adapter part should be $200 or less. $700 in labor?!?!
Am I missing something or is this typical dealer behavior.
Can I install either myself?

Ipod....
I recently had the dealer install the Ipod integration kit in my 04' E55 and ended up being under $700.00 total..... so I think your dealer is a little ambitious with that price..... I'm sure you can chizzle the guy down some on that..... The kit cost's around $200 I believe.... the labor is definetly the major part of it though..... I don't think it would be a real easy do-it-yourself deal either.
Good luck.....
By the way..... Once it's installed it's definetly worth it.... I've got 7,500 songs right at my fingertip's..... It's way cool!![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)

Yes, it does, but I wanted to control the iPod through the steering wheel controls. I'm disappointed that it doesn't include the display on the Nav screen.
The problem with the Aux input is that it is in a terrible location! If you have to control the songs at the iPod, then you have to leave the glovebox open ?!!?
Why not in the console?

Yeah, it looks interesting, but what the heck is it? Does it still allow both the CD changer and Sirius? Some don't.

I use the glove box plug in and ran the cord to my center console. I leave the iPod in the cup holder closest to the front of the car. That way I can shut my console while it's playing. I think it's worth the $700+ I saved.
Also, I prefer the iPod's interface to the steering wheel.
Question about the OEM iPod kit...
Can you only play playlists?? I know with some other manufacturers like Acura and BMW (i think) you can only play playlists when using the iPod kit.
If that's so, what a waste of money IMO.
I like to listen to more than just playlists. I like podcasts and I also listen to videos like movies I've seen already but love to listen to or even tv shows that are classic and funny to listen to like Seinfeld. The OEM kits won't allow this on a lot of cars, but the AUX in gives me the freedom to listen to whatever I want whenever I want.

That aftermarket unit looks like it replaces the CD changer based on what I'm seeing on the blurry screen. I could be wrong, but that's what it looks like to me.
IMO, it's worth it. I haven't had a CD in my car since I bought it anyway.

I just ordered the Denison Gateway 500 plus their Bluetooth option. Should be a fairly simple install -- just pull the CD changer, plug it into the MOST connections, get power and ground.
The Bluetooth option lets you answer your phone through the COMMAND. Doesn't do phone books, etc. -- you have to initiate calls from the phone -- but for $100 extra, it is perfect.
