Porterfied Brake Pads - Annoying Rattle

Has anyone using the Portfield RS4 brake pads notice an annoying rattle from the front end when you go over bumps. It appears that the brake pads are a little smaller than OEM and thus rattle in the calipers when you go over bumps. Any idea of how to fix this problem.

Are you getting the same brake pads. I just noticed on their website that it lists brake pads for the 2003 and 2004 E55, but not 2005. Could the calipers be differrny on 05 models.
Thanks

You better get that checked out,it doesnt sound right.I dont see how the pads could be lose in there, they should have a small amount of tension on them at all times.

Sounds more like somebody forgot too tighten a bolt somewhere.

+1 on that...squeaking I've heard of from new pads, but not really a rattling sound...

I had this same problem on my E500. I replaced my front OEM pads and the person whom did the job didn't hammer in the two pins that hold the brake pad onto the caliper and it rattled just as you described. One pin fell out and one was still attached. My dealer ended up replacing both pins for me and made sure to hammer them in properly.

Look at your brake calipers and there should be two little holes, one on each side at the top, make sure the pins are still in there, if so, hammer them in more and if not, get new ones ASAP.

Spoke to a tech at Porterfield this morning. Apparently the rattling is not uncommon. It is due to the fact that the plate on the back of the brake pad is a different size than the OEM brake pad plate. He told me that it is nothing to worry about. If the noise is annoying he suggested putting a Bendix type adhesve between the brake pad plate and the calipers.

I have them on my 04 with no rattling? Maybe its because the part is specific for my 04 or because Evosport did a special mount. Check with Simon at Evo as he may be able to provide more insight on this.

Thanks Vic. I think the rattling is coming from the pads and the calipers. I still have my stock calipers. Do you have new calipers? The evosport rotors are great. They are not the problem..

I had the same metallic rattle as well as no place to place my wear sensor probe so I took em off and sent em back. This was a year ago as I found it very concerning in my 100K beast-Joker

I would of assumed this was the procedure on all pads? If the pads do not come with it already installed, then they should have come with the blue liquid that you apply to them,no?

$500.00 pads and they dont have this already applied to them? Amazing.

You got me there. I hate nothing more than leaks, overheating, and dead batteries.

I am running stock calipers. I think Evo did some mods to the plates like you mentioned to get the noise to go away.

No report on brake pads...

they were just bleeding the brake lines when I left. I did get a pic of one of the painted calipers...
