San Fran trip questions...

Well my wife and I are headed to SF on the 23rd through the 29th. Three things...

1. Recommendations on a sushi restaurant in the downtown area. We are staying at The Clift.

2. Recommendations on a seafood restaurant (we love lobster and crabs).

3. Best chance to walk on a golf course near San Francisco proper...My buddy and I are playing Harding Park Thursday and Poppy Ridge (Livermore) on Saturday, but we might play a third time and need ideas on possibly playing on Wednesday.

Thanks.

Jon

1. hard to go wrong with most sushi in the city
2. Hawthorne Lane for upscale, or Alioto's for crab feast
3. Go south a bit to the Ritz Carlton/Half Moon Bay for a treat

1. Thanks.

2. We like to roll up our sleeves when we eat, so Alioto's sounds good.

3. Wow...I just looked at their site and it looks fantastic...thanks.

1. Gary Danko, Aqua, Boulevard, for downtown restaurants downtown. All are excellent. Sushi places are a abundant but can be hit and miss. Ebisu on 9th Avenue @ Irving is always good.

2. A favorite of locals for crab is out on Judah. It's called Thang Long. A Viet namese restaurant which prepares dungeness crab many different way and ALL are delicious.

3. Golf courses are a toss up,

Good Luck and Enjoy our City.

The weather is starting to change. Bring a coat or sweatshirt. If not, you'll be wearing one that reads "San Francisco" by evening. . The sushi and Vietnamese restaurants require a little travel from downtown. If you go for Thang Long, you may have to wait, but it WILL be worth it. BTW, lobster in SF (especially) is available but local dungeness crab is the best.

1. Try Sushi House in Alameda...Go for lunch...there's always an hour + wait at night.

2. Crustaceans in SF. Best Garlic Crab in SF.

3. Lot's of golf courses in the Bay Area. My favorites are Wente Vinyards, Cinnabar Golf Course, Roddy Ranch Golf Club...and of course there's Monterey, CA. Play Poppy Hills in Monterey if you can, best bang for the buck if your an NCGA member or a USGA member.

for seafood. Thang Long and Crustanceans are the best crab eating place... BTW it is the same owner for both. mother and son.

Sushi Ran is a fantastic sushi bar over in Sausalito. It's one of the few sushi bars highly rated by Zagat. Aqua is a good seafood restaurant, but if you're looking for the ultimate dining experience give Fleur de Lys or Michael Mina's a try. The Fleur is a bit more personal & Mina's is higher energy. Both have outstanding cuisine. At Fleur, have Hubert Keller (the chef & owner) craft the menu for you & Marcus Garcia (sommelier) is very knowledgeable & attentive. Mina's has a larger wine selection (ws grand award) & some talented young sommeliers as well.
You can't go wrong with either place, I happen to like Fleur. (fwiw!)

I've played the first three you mentioned...tough courses, esp. Wente Vineyards. We played it the week before a Nationwide event was to be played and the rough was HIGH. We don't have the change in elevation here like you have there. It was a treat.

Right now tentatively I made some tee times at the Ritz Carlton/Half Moon Bay Old Course as our third round. From the website, I'm sure we will enjoy it...

Thanks guys for the suggestions for restaurants...I'm going to try and book some reservations (if they take them) at several places and see what sticks...
