Tires: why PS2s?
Any thoughts on less costly tires that perform as well? How about Pirelli (sp?) P Zero Neros?
Thanks guys

my toyo t1r's are much better than the ps2's i had before them and the t1r's are almost half the price.
On a less serious note, PS2's are the best overall rubber. They are the M3 of tires. Not the best at any one thing but very good at many......wet, dry, ride quality, braking, cornering and quiet.
Latest reviews put the new Pirelli's on par with the PS2, while there are many cheaper Japanese tires that offer superior dry traction but less wet traction.
One reason that I liked the Michelins was the noise level was very low throughout the life of the tire.
I had them on my 911TT and was impressed.
However, replacing the rears after 4,800 miles on my CL55 made me try the GS-D3's. Let's see if I get better wear from them.
So far the GS-D3's are marginally better in the wet than the PS2's but weaker on launch and cornering.
For my driving, wet is a safety issue but launch and cornering are just for fun. Most roads I drive are relatively straight.
I won't be sure about which tire I prefer for another 4,200 miles - that's 6 months of driving for me.

I really think that it depends on where you're driving.
Here in North Texas, almost all of my driving is straight line. If I was living somewhere in Connecticut (for instance), the PS2's would be preferable.

The goodyear is a great wet tire and its actually very good in the dry too but they become just insanely loud when half worn and that makes the tire effectively useless after 5-8k miles.
I think the new big bad tire on the market is the RE050A PolePosition. It is actually better than a PS2 in nearly every way and they cost much much less. There are many many different versions of the RE050 and the "RE050A PolePosition" is the only one that really is better than a PS2. While all look identical the tread compound and core design make the PolePositon version the one to purchase.
I just put a set of PS2's on my SL55 with 19 inch RENNtech monolite wheels and I actually REALLY dislike the tire. There is so much sidewall flex that the car just walks and wiggles down the road when you are accelerating hard. That "wiggle" everyone complains about is really an issue. I have 295 rear PS2's and it is just crazy that this "extra load" tire moves around that much.
My next tires will be the new P-Zero or the RE050A Pole Position.

I had the PS2 on my M and they were GARBAGE

I switched them for Ds-G3's and loved my car again, now the new hot ticket is the Bridgstone PP, RE050. They CRUSH PS2's in launch mode, atleast in my toys, and they were giving me 0.97 g's on the track, according to my G-tech.
Oh well to each his own just remeber:
As the man said above, it is better to be a wolf for a day then a sheep for a week, SHEEP GET SLAUGHTERED

See yeah

And remeber its okay to think OUTSIDE the box

I have the Bridgestone RE050A's and I love them. They are great in the wet and handle very predictably with very little sidewall flex. The tires are also very quiet. I'm not a big fan of Bridgestone/Firestone after the debacle with the Firestone tires on the Ford Explorer but I gave them another chance with the RE050A's and have been very impressed.
or TOYO RA1's are even a step above same price.......

my next set for my 20inch rims will either be another set of T1rs or ill might stick with bridgestone and get the RE050 pole position just to compare.
I replaced my Conti's with 6,000 because the rears were worn. I put almost 7,000 on the PS2's and they still have quite a bit of tread left, but I suspect that the grippiest part of the tire's life is gone.
In any event - PS2 is a much better tire.

Here are two other tire discussions!
