To complete the look, might I suggest painting the side reflectors black too? Other than that, it looks beastly! ![thumbs](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/thumbsup.gif)
Goatspeed,
I'll try to answer your question about the x-pipe vs straight pipe. If you look under your car you will see from front to back: primary cats, secondary cats, resonator, and mufflers. Look carefully at the secondary cats and you will notice that there already is somewhat of a H-pipe crossover right before the secondary cats. So, if you remove the resonator and replaced it with a x-pipe crossover then wouldn't that be redunant? I've removed my resonators and replaced it with straight pipes. Later on, I plan on removing the secondary cats and replacing it with a x-pipe and finish it off with a Renntech exhaust. I believe chiromikey has a custom exhaust in his E55 similar to what I am planning?

I guess I was thinking the x-pipe replaced the resonator not the cats.
Is there any hp improvement by going to straight pipes?
Is smog affected?

Where can I get it done in the Bay Area!

We used Eisenmann mufflers,
We just ordered a Dynopac 4 wheel hub dyno, So I will post exact hp increases once that arrives...which realistically probably will not be for a few weeks, and we are planning a dyno day/weekend for any and every enthusiast soon after the dyno comes in, and obviously there will be *special* discounts for MBworlders!

I'll answer your question via PM. I don't want to hijack this thread.

Cool. What are your opinions on this exhaust setup that I'm going to do: I'll keep the primary cats, replace the secondary cats with x-pipe, replace the resonator with straight pipes, and replace stock mufflers with Renntech.

My opinion is that removing the cat's automatically void's the warranty and since you will for sure loose backpressure, you will probably end up slowing your car down, but it will sound good. And by removing your ressonator it honestly does not ressonate in the cabin plus if you remove your cat, you will get a check engine light and probably get some resonating in cab. If I could suggest anything, do RENNTech headers (because RENNTech actually makes their own headers) and keep the stock cats, straight pipes to an Eisenmann exhaust. You've heard it, and it sounds even better in person! I personally love the sound as comparable to any other exhaust I've heard...
...For example an R8 (yes the new Audi supercar) flew by me under a freeway overpass and this black widow AMG at half throttle (after exhaust work) under that same bridge sounded 1000 times more bada$$...and I was in the car, imagine how much better it would have sounded standing on the street.

My comments in red.
Hey vegas,

I'm not so sure that this is the case. Removing the secondary cats should not void the warranty. If I were to bring my car in for a problem not related to the exhaust, the dealership can't deny the work. Look up Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. As for losing backpressure, the x-pipe crossover would replace the stock crossover before the secondary cats thus negating any loss of backpressure.

Check engine light only comes on if you remove the primary cats, not the secondary cats.

Renntech headers are possibly in my future. I intend to keep the primary cats and replace the secondary cats with x-pipe. The resonator already has been replaced with straight pipes. Instead of Eisenmann, I'm planning on getting Renntech. I'm trying to stay with all Renntech mods.

Vegastrashed,
Its unlikely the dealer will give you a hard time on an unrelated problem over removing the 2nd cats.BUT dont think the MM Act is going to save you on any mods you do to your car, thats not what the act was written for.Its best to get very friendly with your SA before you decide to do any mods to your car, this way you can see what they will let slide and not slide.
Also,if MB considers the 2nd cats as part of the emission's system(which Im 99% sure they do),they can and will void your warranty if they decide to.You have no leg to stand on there. You might very well get by with no problems though, many have.Removing the resonator is another story, probabaly wont have any problems with them over that.

Thanks for the heads up Jrocket. I move around too much to establish any good rapport with a SA. This is where MBWorld comes in. I'll go to the SA that's highly regarded by the members here in the Bay Area.
