New 2007 E63 P30 Owner - some questions

I am not one to join many forums, but my there are not many people you can stop on the road and ask them about their E63.

I now have 1500miles on the car and it is a blast.

I have read about the charcoal filters, how to find Castrol SAF-XJ 75W-140 gear lube, and resetting ECUs.

What I have not found is the following.

1. haveyou ever noticed accelerating max in 1st that the tach lags the enginer? I have hit the rev limiter when I know the tach was below 7K. I have switched to shifting based on the "red" upshift, but it makes me wonder if I or the computer would be better.

2. I get little or no wheel spin with ESP off. I would havethought 500hp would cause uncontrolled wheel spin. Does the car "hook up" that good?

3. When ESP hits, it is very agressive. There are times where taking a curve, I had thought I had not shifted soon enough, but I think the tires started to spin and the ESP nearly killed the engine. Am I imagining?

4. In M, take the car in 2nd to 4Krpm and then floor it. With ESP on, I get a hesitation as the ESP kicks in for a second and then I accelerate. With ESP off, I get almost no loss of traction, but the hesitation is gone and the car accelerates incredible.

5. My friends have asked my if the car has the option "Barot" wanted installed in his car. I have not seen the movie. Does it?

Thanks,
Jon

2007 E63 P30 In Flint Gray

Congrats on the car, you'll really enjoy it...... I have the same car in black.
Does your car start in 1st gear when the transmission is in Sport mode? If not, you may need to get the latest transmission software.

Initially, non of the 63 engines redlined in 1st gear. It always shifted early at 6000 to 6200 rpm instead of 7100 rpm. So after break-in period, it is a good idea to "train" your transmission to redline. In general, to train the transmission, people would drive aggressively whenever possible, but if you want the transmission to go to the extreme, it has to be done gradually. Here is how:

1) Start in D/S mode. Drive the car slowly until it upshifts to 2nd gear.
2) As soon as the car upshifts to 2nd gear, downshift manually using the left lever back to 1st gear.
3) Rev the engine to 7100 RPM then hold it for a couple of seconds then upshift.
4) Stop and repeat the process again a few times. If oil temps get too high, stop car for a while and then continue.

This worked for me and a couple of other members, but as soon as you drive in traffic or on cruise control for a while, the transmission would shift early again. Here is a video by Juicee63 demonstrating this process; I hope it helps.......

You mean 'Borat'? He wanted the pu$$y magnet option. I think the E63 comes with that as standard equipment!

Welcome fellow Bay Area E63! I can try to answer only the first two questions you have. My comments in red.

I hit the rev limiter a lot in M mode. I find that I have to hit the paddle shifters between 6000 - 6500 rpm b/c if I try to shift at redline, it's too late and the engine bogs down.

2. I get little or no wheel spin with ESP off. I would havethought 500hp would cause uncontrolled wheel spin. Does the car "hook up" that good?
Wheel spin is b/c of torque. Too much power being put down to the wheels. The E55 has a much harder time than E63 hooking up from a dig. It's a good thing you're getting little to no wheel spin.

Thanks for the replies.

You gentlemen have confirmed 1,2 ,and 5.
1. you need to shift around 6000->6500 RPM in M from 1st to 2nd.
2. No one is leaving black stripes down the road just by smashing the throttle to the floor in D/S with ESP off. I am guessing particularly since I have the LSD. And YES I do start in 1st in D/S and the RPMs hit close to 7K RPM.
3. No similar experience?
4. Anyone else?
5. And other than the fact I can not spell 'Borat', it is good to know the pu$$y magnet option is standard equipment on the E63.

I have my car in the dealer getting a LO Jack installed. I will be back in the saddle this Sat. Can't wait.

Also is there a South SF Bay group that meets?

Hello and welcome. What color is your car?

I wouldn't think you need Lo Jack if you activate tele-aid. If your car was ever stolen, you can call the MB dealership and they'll notify the police and use GPS to locate your car.

2009 SL63 AMG, sliver
wheel spine

I dont have the LSD on my 63, but if I turn off ESP and floor it (this the engine warmed up) I get tons of wheel spin. Maybe the LSD is just that good...

Also I took my car in for the 10000 mile service recently and I swear the car is quicker since I got it back. They did 2 recalls, (not sure what they were) and then the A service.

You know, it's really not that hard to find out on your own instead of reviving 3-year old threads.

Here: https://mbworld.org/forums/w211-amg/...e-finally.html

But I'm not sure why you even want an E63 with the P30 option after you jumped at a well-known pro race driver about driving his car aggressively.

I guess I could ask you why you want the P30 package with the top speed limiter disabled

Anyway, the guy mentioned one instance of "an awesome freeway on ramp" and never mentioned time of day/night, traffic (if any) etc.. He also embellished a lot in all of his posts to get his point across. He added that he wanted a car to use on the track, too. He was making a point about being a skilled driver, and not exactly the reality of driving in Southern California.

Why do you want a used E63? You don't seem to know much about them. But hey, it's your business I wouldn't tell you to not to get a specific car or tell you how to drive it......

Again, do your homework instead of asking the same exact question on half a dozen threads that are ancient. Maybe we're just cut from different cloth but I would do gobs of homework on a specific model that I might be interested in. And then be sure to run the VIN for the actual factory options and service records and do a full PPI. But that's just me.

Um, I gave you the answer in one of your multitudes of posts that you've been spamming all over the place. Why not just start a new thread if you need special help and answers.

I ANSWERED YOU: Two visual clues: 1) the steering wheel 2) the wheels

Then I even gave you a link to a thread WITH PICTURES that explains the difference between P30 and non-P30. And it explained the difference in steering wheels between 2007-2009 versions.

Then I said to check the VIN to be certain either with the VMI (which you replied, duh, what's a VMI?) or do an Experian Auto Check or Carfax.

Gee, you're welcome. Thank you.

Talk about somebody needing to be spoon fed. You're a big boy now. Take charge of things.

20 posts and all except three are the same question. Plus toss in "is the M5 faster than the E63?" And "is the E55 faster than the E63?" Yet you're going out to hopefully buy one on the spur of the moment and need basic answers ASAP? I'm sure the seller will be happy to accommodate your extra needed time if they want to sell it. You're pretty much in the driver's seat as a buyer when it comes to used AMGs.
