Alright fine. I agree. But it's not AS bad as an E63 badge. I never knew the stupid dealer did that to make a buck. I mean ish i though it was somewhat stupid but did not have such a strong hate like some owners did. Maybe when i pickup my C63 i will understand. I have NOOO clue what Mashang means man....

A humorous observation.. A number of my coworkers have high line/muscle cars (Porsche, Lamborghini, Shelby Mustang, Z06 Vette) and they always like to point out something like an E63 is a "**** and *****" car because the casual car lover doesn't recognize what a 55, 63, etc., only the limited number of guys plugged into AMG Mercedes.

1) C32 is an AMG so I don't see what's wrong with that. You laugh? Why? That contradicts your next statement regarding the 'superiority complex.'
2) From what I've been told, the CLK430 is the only non-AMG that came with factory AMG badging in the US. Therefore, the CLK430 is an exception. That's how it is here, overseas MB may badge cars differently.

As a side note, BMW offers an M package for their X3 which comes with the exterior M badge. IMO, it's a bad move... but who am I to say what's right.

I can guarantee you that there is no such thing as a "CLK430 AMG". Let's be clear here: an AMG is not a package. It is a model. So far, the only CLK AMG models produced have been the CLK55 and the CLK63/CLK63BS.

The AMG line is a separate model line from regular Mercedes cars. They have hand built engines, different brakes, suspension, etc. etc. etc., and their numbers for engine displacement are ALWAYS designated with two digits (CLK55, CLK63, S65, etc.) to differentiate them from the NON-AMG models, which use three digits (CLK430, S550, SL600, etc.).

If your CLK430 had an AMG badge on the rear decklid when new, the dealer put it on. Simple as that.

Just wondering, did your brother buy his SL pre-owned?

I'm wondering if it was the previous owner and not the dealer that posed it out.

I wonder if I'm posing? I've added the AMG exhaust to my E500. OH, But I didn't add the AMG badge, nevermind. I did, however, remove the E500 badge. I'm sure people think its and E320 now. I guess I'm reverse-posing?

Tell your brother to drop the AMG badge and be proud of his SL.

Ok.. so either you don't know there actually is a C32 AMG or you really do have a superiority complex.. Which is it?

Did you also know that there is a C36 AMG and a C43 AMG.. do you laugh at those a well?

And lastly.. Did your dealer tell you the AMG badge was added in Germany, did you order your car from Germany, or do you just assume it was added in Germany? I am calling and saying the dealer added it.

My brother picked up his SL brand-new. I'm guessing the dealership put the AMG badge on. My brother is proud of his SL, last i saw the badge was gone. If he wanted an AMG car he would have picked up a E55/C55, be he does not care about speed like most of us . About your E500....i think it looks clean with no badge...and who cares if people think it's a E320? You konw it's not.

I doubt seriously that the dealer put the AMG badge on the car. Serious lawsuit for misrepresentation if they did. Dealers are chicken shi'ts and they are not stupid.

Where do you live? If you live anywhere near OC i can show you dealers who put AMG badges on the car. And answer this....if the dealer did not put a AMG badge on a brand new SL then who did?.....He pulled it out of the dealer with the AMG badge.

To those that have appointed themselves "Defender of All-things AMG", I applaud your zeal, but I think some day you'll look back on your laborious posts here and feel a little embarassed for yourselves. Lord knows, I'm a little embarassed for you.

Does someone you don't know putting a five x two inch badge on his car really get you guys this worked up? While I agree that it's probably not in good taste to AMG badge your car I'm pretty far from getting foamed-up at the mouth about it as many of you all seem to.

But then again, as an SL owner, I'm automatically genetically superior, far wealthier and a bona-fide car enthusiast than all C, E, CLK, SLK and ML owners But this thread has been entertaining in that it's a peek at what the little-people fight about.

P.S. I was down at MBSD the other day, and I saw not one but two non-AMG cars sporting an AMG badge, so y'all better grab your torches and pitchforks and head down there before the perps get away !
