*** VRP Headers ***

I have a tried and tested longtube header which is now available.. These will come in different varieties, but, this first version is a 1.75" tube design with 32" long primaries (if I remember the length correctly).

I will be making a 1.75" to 1 7/8" stepped header to also test on the heads/cams car to see if there is any more power on the table.

They have a Burns style race merge collector and everything is tig welded.. A 2000F thermobaric coating will be applied to them to keep temps in check (high luster chrome finish).

I will get the details on the before & after dyno and post them for you guys.

I am targetting a price of $2699.

I will do an introductory price of $2499 shipped!

If I can get a good amount of units built, the price will be even cheaper..

Here are a couple of shots of the prototype being built. I value your feedback, so I'd love to hear your thoughts and comments.

Chris is doing alot of my fabrication work.. He is making the long tubes, shorties, and in the process of finishing up the front mount intercooler kit (FYI.. front mount kit will be $1499 which includes johnston pump, heat exchanger and all fittings.. The cooler will have the heat dispersement coating applied just like the ones for my Porsche 996 GT2 shown below.

Thumbs up Nice!

I like the design... I favor long tubes.

Hard to tell from the pictures but the welds on the flanges look a little undercut.

Could the collector be a little larger?

BTW... Are you thinking of doing that HE for the SL also, & will the headers fit the SL?

Thanks

I don't see E55 products listed anymore on their site. Does that mean they don't sell direct anymore?

We are going to be testing some variations of collector size.. this setup works and works well.. It makes alot of power so we can only improve on what is already there.

The shorties will work on all the cars.. They are 1.75" tubes and made 28rwhp and 30rwtq on the dyno. One of our members; PhilD is running them on his car if I am not mistaken.

I know the design looks like a log style manifold, but the idea was to make something that is very easy to install (2hrs it took) and fits all the 55K cars without taking a ball-pean hammer to the heatshields to knock them into place. And of course, the main goal was to keep all factory emissions equipment in place.

Plus, for $1500 you cant go wrong!!

Thanks bud!

He is making them for VRP. I will be giving Chris alot of the fab work that I have been farming out to other companies...

He might be doing the E55 TT mockup for me so look for my car in Arizona in the coming months..

How difficult is to install the long tube comparing to the shorties?

Because it is. The dyno graph for these show most of the gains are in the very upper end of the RPM band - not that useful for daily driving. Will/would you replace your current Evosport shorties with these?

It would be interesting to compare dyno graphs of the Evo shorty headers on an otherwise stock car with these on a stock car, but at the end of the day, these don't look to be much more than slightly oversized stock manifolds. I'm rather underwhelmed by these since so much of your other stuff has been comparatively outstanding and unique compared to these. Nonetheless, kudos for keeping the stuff coming!

Will the long tube headers fit on a CLS 55?? And are there any sign of indicator lights popping up on the dash from the long tubes? Also will the sound level of the car be significantly louder? GREAT work by the way

yes they will work on the cls55. as far as the code i'm not sure but i do know a lot of people are just having the code turned off on the comp so it doesn't go off. yes it makes it louder but nothing too insane.

Thanks for the response. I think i'll be getting into some VRP long tube headers very soon then....

No problem, Steve.

Shorties replace the stock exhaust manifold and bolt up to the rest of the exhaust system without modification.

Long tube headers replace the stock exhaust manifold AND a section of the rest of the exhaust system. The primary cats will need to be moved or removed, which makes EPA compliance problematic.

Well designed long tubes will make more horsepower. Shorties are easier to install and don't have EPA issues but make less horsepower.

Victor, looks good!

Well said.

These longtubes headers look good. Straight, lots of long and straight sections. Not too angular, which is a good thing.

I agree, Chris (Floored Fab) is awesome. I can't give him a too high of a recommendation. I drove my SLK32 from the bay area to Phoenix to have headers made and it has turned into a much bigger upgrade including headers, custom exhaust, LSD, cooling kit upgrade with remote reservoir in the trunk, oil catch can, interior leather wrap. I had to drive 700 miles but I think it will turn out to be well worth it. Some links to a few pics. Because the SLK has a very large steering box, he had to come up with a pretty innovative design.
