Ditch the spare tire?

How many of you ditched your spare tire to save weight or for stereo install room? I'm about to install a fairly heavy stereo system (3 JL Amps, 2 JL Subs) and I'm thinking about telling my installers to put the amps in my tire well. This will allow a clean install and will save me some weight. I don't track the car, but I like to hit it a fair amount when driving on I-5. I haven't changed a tire in years, and I have AAA.

Thoughts?

For stereo reasons i'd do it, but i doubth removing 10lbs off of this car would do any performance gains. It's a fat pig. I've had cars w/out spares and (non runflat tires) since 2001. So far been lucky and no problems.

In OZ our Es come with a can of goo and no spare. Its more like a 40lb saving.

My M5 has that can of goo and no way it weights even close to 40lbs. I say under 5lb.s My E63 has a wierd spare tire that looks like a thin strip of rubber on a steel rim, no air in the tire part though.

I'm one...AAA, too.

There are still doing some trim pieces for the trunk, but it's 90% complete.

I used the ingenious(uninflated) spare recently and also had the "///M-Mobility system" which could not saved me like AMG spare from the 2" gash in sidewall.

Not the goo! The 18" alloy wheel and fully inflated tyre weigh nearly 40lbs. The stock wheels themselves are 25lbs (I think).
I dont know what a space saver wheel and tyre weigh.

I just picked up my new to me 03 E55 and the salesman tells me the spare is under the carpet and I get home open it up and no spare!!!
The opening for the spare is not even big enough for a spare to fit.
Does this mean it's not normally equipped?

I agree. the M Mobility although i've never used it, looks very useless in 85% chances you'll get a flat.
