MPG city driveing
Gas was the last thing on my mind when buying this car but damn does it eat a lot. I've had the car for about 5 days and put on 100 miles mostly stop and go and at time letting it run when my friends were checking it out and I can see my MPG at like 10.5 at times. I thought Hummers ate a lot of gas but this is almost at the same level. Is this normal?

:P Let me just say welcome to the club. Yeah that is normal. im getting probably 16mph for highway and 9 for city. I notice also that when driving you can literally see the gas meter go down, make me wanna cry.

Seems low to me. I get 13 in town, as much as 21 hwy. Average is 16.5 over the last 2K miles, and I do enjoy the power especially since my '06 is no longer stock. Do you see a lot of stop and go traffic? That's a killer on the average mpg.

i was just commenting on same thing, tho i have the 02 NA S55.
funny thing, i actually got surprisingly good mileage on my 01 E55...so much so that i didn't even think much about swapping to heavier S-class.
surprisingly, the 400 lb weight penalty feels like it's about 4-6mpg difference in city and about 2-3mpg on hwy.
yes, i similarly see the fuel gauge go down, even as computer showing 14mpg.

DUH, just noticed you said mostly S&G over 100 miles. It's Ok, it'll come up a lot once you start moving. After all, it's a 500HP V8.

Actually, I find that it is not that bad at all if you don't push it. For instance, my M5 used to average from 22-28L/100 km in the city and 13.5 to 17.0 on the highway. The Merc is avergaing 18 - 22 L in the city and 12 - 13.5 on the highway... But then again, the weather is horrible here in Toronto. It has been raining the whole week + I already have my winters on, so I don't push it.... Hate the winter

I've noticed it really does get better mileage when in the comfort mode as opposed to sport mode....just not nearly as much fun to drive.
I guess if you aren't going to play for whatever reason, leave it in comfort mode and save a bit of gas.![Smilie](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
I get 20 MPG in comfort mode on interstate traveling.

I hope you were talking about the E60 M5. My E39 M5 did about 11-13 on the highway and 15-17 in the city. On the highway I could get as good as 9-10 if driving very gas savingly. The E55 is thirsty and does 12-14 on the highway and I have never seen a value below 11.8 whatever I do, City is around 18. My mixed average is 15.6. If it helps I have had the winter wheels on for 2 months and will have to have them until the end of April. The winter here is too long. Well if you can call 18 inch winter wheels at all...![smash](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/smashfreak.gif)

What you don't know won't hurt you, as the saying goes. I too noticed the poor mileage, at first. Now I keep the display off the MPG screen. I only watch the fuel level to know when to fill up. Often, if I see it at 1/2 I will just fill it at that point. I am enjoying the car more. All of us can afford a little extra gas so why dwell on the point? I know one thing is for sure, if any of us has an opportunity to "punch" the car we will.
