I did it! First Mod!

I got tired of being "bone stock" really fast. I went to a performance exhaust shop yesterday and had them cut out the secondary cat and resonator. In the place where the cat used to be, they put in two straight pipes, and in place of the resonator they put in an X-Pipe. Here are some before and after pics. I really wanted my car to sound like the G55, and I have to say that the sound is very close to my goal now. Its deep.

I also have Green Filters on their way from Neal (Euroteckmotorsports).

I know its not a lot, but I hope it gets me out of the "bone stock" category.

The shop did discover a small leak in a doughnut gasket...
Anybody knows how much it will be to fix it?

Congradulations, you should add the Kleemann primary cats to get to the G55 goal.

It will sound mean and add a few horsepowers , Green filters are .

By the way, Just curious did you feel any gains around the low to mid rpm range?

Great! I didn't dare yet ..
btw, wasn't enough to cut out the cats only?
if the resonator is really straight through, by cutting it wouldn't help performance but add loudness and feel it inside, even at constant 80mph ...

thanks

When you deleted the resonator, did that cause drone or resonance inside the cabin? I've had drone in my Turbo, and it was impossible to live with. Thanks.

Very nice mod.

The only thing that I would change is putting flanges on either the front of back side of the X-pipe so it would be easier to pull the exhaust for service. Sometimes you need to remove the rear section and with it welded solid, you would have to pull it from the cats back.

Also, maybe a bit to gain from mandrel bends but not enough to worry about.

Did you ever post the video?

I did this on both my SLK32 and C32 with no drone and a good increase in exhaust note at both idle and throttle.

Thanks! The shop says they will swap my stock system back into it if I ever need it for 80 bucks, so I decided not to worry about flanges... I have one video of the car revving:

Thanks for the link...sounds very good!

Not a bad deal on the swap back so that makes it simple.

If the resonator delete causes drone (which I certainly DO NOT want) what should I do about increasing the sound of my exhaust, without buying whole new pipes or headers? Fairly cheap easy way - thanks.
