6500miles on rear tires.... done

I've had my E63 since March and about 6500 miles. The original Continental tires are officially toast. I know I drive a little 'aggressive' but that's stupid.

My E63 has 7500 miles and my original contis are also toast (down to the wear bar), and I'll never use Continental every again They are supposed to be rated to 20,000 miles........ what a joke

I think I'm going Michellin Pilot Sport 2 next or maybe Perrelli Pzeros

Thats why I use KUMHO's
6K miles and most low profile tires go south quick anyway.
I had a set of Good Years, and they had tread left @ 6K
but were so loud it would drive you out of the car.
OEM tires only lasted 6800 miles and the side wall
gave out, belt separation.

My previous CLK came with Pzeros and those only lasted 9500miles. So I put PS2's and liked them a lot. I have some on order for this car.

The good news is that I've been driving around with the traction control off so that they will be completely bald!

I could sell you my rear 97% tread Bridgestones RE050 285/30/19, I just took em off to run Michelin pilot sports. I could sell you the entire set 255/35/19
285/30/19 (cheap) 400.00 tires have a few hundred miles on em...

I think they are 275 per tire on tire rack

I have those same exact tires. 11K miles on them and still lots of tread. Do you notice an improvement with the pilot sports? I couldnt find the PS2's in a 285, so I went with the bridgestone.

If you dont sell them, I might take them off you.

The Bridgestones seem great just need an r comp for the track.. I run a 305 Pilot sport cup. I dont think the PS2 is any better than the RE050..Maybe a bit softer. The stone's seem like they would be great in rain and last quite a long time. They feel more responsive than my Pirelli's, which also held up great under heavy track activity 12k miles. Bridgestones came on the performance rim I just purchased so my experience with them is two days :-).

I like em, just need the track tires on the performance rim.

the 305 on the 10" rim bulges a bit but it protects the rim and offers 12" contact path. Im going to do a 265/30/19 front in the pilot sport cup. This will be the ultimate track set up, not real good in the weather !!!

Yeah lemme know if you want em

Stop driving like a girl.
I got 4,900 miles out of PS2's and I don't think I drive really hard.

GS-D3's on there now and they spin more easily than the Michelins.
And yes, that is to be expected from a harder rubber compound.

I think the tires are used up at 6500 miles is because you are driving the hell out of them.

Everyone on this list may say "Oh thats not true" but look at your perspective.

We all have about 500HP. It is not unusual for us to be pushing 300hp through these tires every day when we are driving "normally".

We have suspensions that allow us to take turns at lateral loads that seem "normal", but are much higher than normal compared to say a E320.

And certainly, if you have the traction control off, every time you take a turn with any kind of acceleration you are going to be sliding the rear end around.

Put it in C and drive like the breakin period and I bet you double your miles easy.

But then that's not the point is it.

E63,,,not any more,,,BMW X5 50i
I had PS2 on my CLK55 and they wore out fast.....chnaged to Kumho's before I got the E63 and thought for the money, they were ok........I hear that Goodyear is coming out wiht a new tire called Asymetrical Formula 1. Tire Rack has a few pics on it, but they won't be getting the bulk of their shipment until after the first...I probably will try them and see what happens!!

Doesnt matter what name is on the side,a soft tire will wear out quickly.Hard compounds will wear out fast as well due to alot of tire spin.

Nothing you can do to change the facts, but lay off the throttle......I dont see that happening in this group soon.

Consider yourself lucky to drive a car that will destroy tires that fast!!!!
Drive it like you have been, and enjoy the ride.
Buy the tires like you buy a tank of gas

Juicee63,
this would have been a great deal had I known about it last week! I am replacing my tires at 22,000 miles after sidewall puncture/blowout in the front and rear RE050s down close to the wear bars.I looked at all the usual suspects including 295/30/19s since the OEM 285/30/19 size has a rather limited selection (e.g. no PS2s etc.)
I was set to put on PS2s when i discovered the vredestein ultrac sessantas posted by another member here. I searched the net and found they were highly thought of on the corvetteforums, audi forums and mustang (I know,I know...but it is still a powerful rear wheel drive application) forums.
additionally, the German car magazine ,Power, had them ranked #1 in their tire comparison test and the British car magazine, Evo, had them ranked #2 in their 2007 tyre comparison test which included the 4th place RE050-A,3rd place Conti contact sport 3,5th place michelin PS2, 8th place dunlop sport maxx, 6th place p zero nero & 1st place goodyear eagle F1 assymetric among others.
the vredestein ultrac sessantas have a UQTG of 280 like the contis and the PS2s have 220 and RE050-As have a 140.
if you search diligently , you can find them online for $184 for 255/35/19s and $197 for 295/30/19s ! that is almost half the price of PS2s from tire rack so if I like them that is a steal and if I dont, I have not lost too much and can change them sooner. 'just thought that i would share the info.
Cheers!

TOYO T1 R'S
I'm surprised no one has mentioned them yet. I had over 12k on my Conti's before I encountered a nail in the sidewall and decided it was a good excuse to change my rears.
My Conti Sport 2's got me through a track event at Spring Mountain (3.2 mile road course) and 1/4 visit at the speedway. They still had at least 5K left in them.
The TOYO T1 R's are hands down an impressive tire and a great value.

p.s. Not sure about tread life as I have only had the tires for 500 miles.

I was out driving around Arizona a couple of months back. Is it a state law that everyone drive at least 85mph? Granted I was in my Saturn rental, but I had people passing me when I was doing 90.

Definitely would have noticed that!! Mostly pickup trucks and SUVs which is suprising... aerodynamics of a brick. Although I swear the Saturn felt like it was going to rattle apart.
