RPM lead for V-12 TT without optical pickup?

No, my car isn't fixed yet but my local shop doesn't have the optical pickup because he doesn't want to invite the diesel boys to drop 50lbs of soot in his shop. Is there another way to do this? There is an ignition module on the top of the engine that has to have something useful..possibly. Thanks for any info.

We tried every wire on the ignition module and none gave a steady signal.

I couldn't find one either. Good luck. Just dyno without the optical pick-up. You can calculate your torque by your hp reading. The dyno only measures torque and calculates hp from the torque reading. HP = tqXrpm/5252

thanks albert....appreciate the info as usual you are DA MAN! I may get a torque only reading once it is back together. The amazing thing is that you can get an RPM reading at the climate control just like an E55 when you put that in diagnostic mode...wonder if that is a possibility...or maybe a single wire to the ECU since that is easily reached in the engine compartment. Someone have a pinout of the ECU wiring and which is the RPM reference?

i know your frustration, to make it even MORE frustrating I have 2 dynos that were done to my car before I purchased it and both have TQ reading and were done by some "non-benz dudes" in OKlahoma....I have tried several times to get a reading and will look into it further once spring time comes but yes its tough......

They must have used the opitical sensors/magnetic tape strip on the crank pulley.

I use optical pick up on SL65 project. I have looked at the igntion module and could not find pick up. I have new one coming for a service job, I might be able to have a closer look.

You can still dyno without the optical pickup.
