The Aussies really know how to choose a getaway car for holdups!
Sydney bandits steal back car
RED-FACED police are scrambling to find a silver E55 Mercedes-Benz being used in armed robberies around Sydney, after it was "re-stolen'' from their custody.
Police spotted the stolen sedan, known for its connection to organised crime, in Excelsior St, Guildford at 2.30am yesterday.
A tow truck was called to retrieve the car but someone drove the Mercedes away about 2.40am, while officers in a police car were meant to be watching it.
Police last night admitted the embarrassing mistake and warned the bandits using the car are armed and dangerous.
The car was used as a getaway car by an armed gang during a robbery on a cash-in-transit security vans at Bankstown on Monday.
Police have been investigating the robbery at the Centro Bankstown shopping centre.
After the Mercedes was stolen, operators in the police control room repeatedly sent descriptions of the car across the airwaves in a desperate attempt to recapture the vehicle, which they said was "re-stolen".
"All cars to approach with caution. The car is known to be armed with a semi-auto(matic) handgun and several stolen revolvers," one of the messages said.
Police admitted last night the car was reported stolen and found in an underground car park of a unit block in Guildford by police yesterday.
They are yet to find the person who simply drove off in the car while it was meant to be under guard.
"Police can confirm that while waiting on Excelsior St for the arrival of a tow truck to remove the vehicle, unknown persons have driven the Mercedes from the car park and evaded police," a police spokesman said.
The Mercedes-Benz is a silver 2003-model E55 AMG sedan and has NSW registration NXQ 50D.

Lol, that would really suck. I can see it know.
"Officer, that wasn't a fair chase, my intercooler pump shutdown. Give me like 10 minutes for it to cool off..."

It seems to have gotten a lot easier since there are so much electronics. All they need is a special kit for a specific brand! That kit holds everything you need to steal a car from that brand.
Plus: They might just have broke into the house and stole the key, which btw is getting more and more popular in Germany.
