Cl65 Auction prices...

I posted this on the CL forum but thought I might give my E class brotha's a taste of the action.. I receive these from a friend, real cool guy, used to be a member here.

2005 CL65

2D COUPE CL65 AMG 18,026 $60,000 01/02/08 ST LOUIS 12G A Avg BLK Y
2D COUPE CL65 AMG 22,590 $59,000 11/20/07 W PALM 12G A Avg BRI SIL Y
2D COUPE CL65 AMG 32,611 $59,000 11/08/07 RIVRSIDE 12G A Avg BRI SIL Y
2D COUPE CL65 AMG 32,146 $56,750 01/10/08 MANHEIM 12G A Avg BRI SIL Y
2D COUPE CL65 AMG 44,544 $51,500 01/02/08 ST LOUIS 12G A Blw BLK N
2D COUPE CL65 AMG 54,245 $50,000 12/20/07 RIVRSIDE 12G A Blw PEWTER N

If you see the one for 44K miles, it sold for 51K, that is the one listed in florida under ebay, they are selling it for 59K, I called the dealer yesterday making them an offer for 54K and told the guy how much they bought it for, he got pissed and asked me how the hell I found out what they paid for it...I told him I have my secrets, he did not want to talk to me after that. What an idiot.....

Question

If i buy a CL straight out of the auction with factory warranty still in effect, will mercedes offer me an extension if I decide to purchase it from them? I am wondering if I should go straight to the auction myself and skip the dealer as the middle man. They will make it CPO but for a big fee, it's $4K+ for all services or what ever it might need and then $2800 more for the extra year thats nearly almost $8K on their side. Don't know if it is worth it, buying it from them..thanks.

Well picture this...you bouight a car 2 years ago for 182K, now the new body style is out and your car is worth pretty much 1/3rd of the value in less than 2 years. Do the math, lol!!...

generally to go to an auction in minnesota you need to be a dealer... I could get you guys something in any state... I am a dealer in MN so I can buy at auctions anywhere in the country online. If you have a local buddy who owns a dealer ask him if you can go to the auction.

DAMN thats cheap! Relatively speaking of course. I want a SL65, guess I have to wait for the new body style to come out so I can afford the current body

There is nothing softer -not even a goose down pillow. I knew this going in when I got mine but I still expected the value to hang on better than it has.

The high milers drop the price even further. I no longer own a CL65 and was lucky to get out with only small damage (relatively speaking).

As for getting a cpo, the dealer has take it into inventory to do this. In the past they were a bit more liberal in their certification abilities but that has changed in the past few years.

I would never buy a V12 or any car without a warranty, especially a Benz.

I agree with you 100% but what I am saying is this, why have a dealer take me to the auction and certify the car for a rediculous fee, it may be 8 grand. I could just go to the auction, run the history and make sure car is good with no nibbles and buy it still under warranty and then make the MB dealer sell me an aftermarket warranty.

I spoke to my dealer this morning and they said their aftermarket warranty is like 3-4K and for 2+ years. Basically covers everything the MB one does. This will be fine as long as I purchase it from them (their aftermarket warranty supplier)...sounds good to me!!!

Jody you're really tempting me with the prospect of owning a 65. I was between the E55/CLS55/M6 for a while but these prices are ROCK BOTTOM. If I get a good deal with a warranty I can just daily drive the hell out of that thing, maybe use it as a commuter! My drive to work just doubled from 22 to 50 miles every morning, I sure could use a nice soft car for the ride.

Mig,
Thanks for posting up the auction prices, the deprecation is incredible on the V12 cars. I think a good course of action would be to Buy at auction and then source an aftermarket warranty. The MB warranty (if you could get it) locks you in to MB, many Aftermarket warranties allow you to choose the shop (ASE certified).

So buy the car $10K under loan, spend $5K for warranty, and take your car to team VRP for service and warranty work.

It sounds like you answered your own question ... I personally would only want a factory warranty when dealing with these temperamental turbo engines and especially when the miles creep over 20-25k... also is that warranty good at any store?

There's a guy in my office that has a dealer's license and can bid on cars at these auctions. If you have your dealer's ID# you can get the auction reports online. Most of the resellers are adding little if any value, so why not buy from the source? (assuming you have a connection with a dealer's license)

He told me some some of the auctions offer a mechanical inspection service for an extra $100 or so. This and an extended warranty would save some headaches down the road.

I'll probably do this for my next one.

I have an Mb tech coming with me to inspect the car the day before if possible. I will also run Vin number for all services.

in terms of the warranty, I will find out if I could use it at any dealer.

Tommy if you get a chance I am looking for an 04' or 05' white E55 with around 50k miles and am looking to see what kinda price I should expect to pay at an auction!! For the amount of time I have spent looking for white E55's I have probably seen less than 10.

You can't even use Mercedes and invest in the same sentence unless you're talking about something old school.

Exactly, investing in a new one is just madness. Look what happened after 3 years to the 05' 1/3 the price. If you want to throw $120K In the river, buy a new one.
