New SL 7 Speed supposedly has NO torque converter! HOW??
Just never heard of this before.
Not many details yet, but just read the line from the article.
But the big news on the AMG is the seven-speed multi-clutch system called MCT. Details are thin, but this is a further development of Mercedes’ seven-speed automatic that will no doubt shift more quickly, and, in this case, operates without a torque converter.

It is like the DSG gearbox that was developed a couple of years ago (dual clutch), no torque converter. BMW recently came out with their version of DSG and looks like now MB has their version.

The quote is from Car and Driver: http://www.caranddriver.com/autoshow...-sl63-amg.html
Details are thin, though.

Careful what you wish for guys. Who knows what kind of limitations MB will stick in there for launch control. This is basically a manual trans that will behave as an auto with some type of manual/clutch-less shifting. Could be a good thing but I'm waiting for more info before I get my hopes up.

And hopefully the programming will be more 'aggressive' for AMG cars to match the sporting characteristics and go head to head with upcoming M and Quattro GmbH products.

I know the new SL 63 will have the current AMG 7 Speed transmission with SpeedShift technology (faster TCM). However, this is about a new dual clutch transmission we are talking about here, not the 7GTRONIC
