If I get pulled over for unregistered motor vehicle...will I get towed???
Long story short, I am thinking of driving my car back from LA to Utah. (down in LA being tuned by Vadim/VRP)
1, to save time waiting for transport company and Vadim needs to make room. 2, to have some fun on the way home. 3, to save a few bucks.
With the car throwing CEL's, I have not been able to get it to pass emissions, thus can't re-register the car at local DMV.
If I get pulled over on the way home, will I just get a ticket or will they tow it on the spot?
I am leaning toward them towing, but wondered if any of you had any ideas.
If she gets towed and impounded in tiny town USA, that would be BAD BAD.
Ticket I can deal with.
Any thoughts???

Just a ticket! Put dealer plates of some local shop you have and drive home. none of my cars or trucks have plates and even when I get pulled over they never say anything. I realy doubt you will get pulled for outta date tags anyways. the cop would have to be right behind you. how many times does that happen? not many.

If you haven’t done so already, just go ahead and pay for the registration renewal. You’ll avoid the late fees. In California, the DMV will report the vehicle, “ fees paid; awaiting emissions certificate.” No draconian measures will be taken. It is, after all, what they’re enforcing… receiving your money. Could be different in Utah.
I saw your car at VRP when they were installing my headers. Sharp. You’re welcome to store it in my garage!

Cel Issues???????????
Jim,
What is up with the CEL issue with your car. Did you have CEL issues prior to the CAM, HEAD and PORT job that VRP did? Can Vadim take care of the the CEL issue for you so you can pass emmisions and get yourself registered.
I for one would not take the chance and drive an unregistered car across state lines. With your luck lately you will get caught. Just not worth the chance in my opinion.

Is your registration expired or have you never registered?
You'll get a ticket for expired registration but if you've never registered, you could get towed. Just happened recently to someone on the forum.

Just expired. Was due in December but the darn car keeps throwing CEL's due to the cammers.
Vadim is gonna keep working on it.
It's a Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor error.

Awesome Mike!! Thanks so much!! Didn't know anything like this exists. Not moving it out of Utah, but still, we should be all good.
The fee is $2.50 for motor vehicles or trailers. The permit allows use of the highways for a time not to exceed 96 hours. The permit is used to move an unregistered vehicle out of the state of Utah.

This has worked in Illinois on my motorcycles, I don't like to run tags on my choppers, they are ugly! Do you own your car outright, or is it financed or leased? If you own outright and have a title in hand and the tags are expired you should be able to go apply for new tags, tell them you just purchased the car and they will either issue new plates or in the case of Illinois they issue temp tags which are good for 3 months and I just place the temp tag and paperwork under my seat and I'm good to go for 3 months, no tags no hassles. In your case it would allow you to display a temp tag for your transit home, if your state even issues temp tags or not.
Not sure if it is that easy where you live, but I would at least investigate it, it may buy you some more time to get emmisions validation as well.
