Well there should be no shame, especially if it was his first time. The whole process can be very daunting and take some time to learn. At least it will provide a baseline from which to improve going forward.

I feel your pain...Mororso sucks.
As far as launching, assuming you have stock tires, do the following:
1. Place the car in 1st gear with ESP turned off and do a light burnout once
you pass the water.
2. After doing your burnout, place tranny in Sport mode, turn ESP on, leave
the suspension in comfort mode. I haven't experimented with the car
raised or not, but some say it helps.
3. Once you have staged and the light turns green, just feather the pedal
and once you feel the car squat down, hammer it.
Make sure you leave esp on if you dont have slicks or drag radials. I went sideways a couple times with esp off trying to be a hero. My first/worst run was a 14.7 . With the launch technique described above, my 60 ft times are down to a 1.9 and 1/4 mile time is 12.41 @114.1..bone stock with conti tires.
Hope this helps
p.s. - Let me know next time you go as I live in West Palm Beach.

Moroso isnt that good...many time its not prepped well...they dont spray VHT, lanes are narrow, and lots of pits from the burnout box all the way down.
Now...Gainesville Raceway...thats a great track.
