2008 M3 vs 2004 E55???

M is Manual: You choose when it shifts, it should bounce off the rev limiter if you hit the red line (i know it does in the 63's, can someone clarify if it upshifts on redline)
I wish!!! On any setting my car shifts into second on it's own. I do a burn out in M mode starting in first, the car will shift into second way to early and bog down. What good is M mode if you can't control the shifts??

only be careful with the M-DCT M3. you will still be faster than him, but it will shift perfect every time and its supposed to be .2 faster to 60 and .6 faster to 120mph. Not enough to beat a 55, but closer than the 6speed m3...
the double clutch M3 should be closer to the C63 also... but i would still put my money on the C in a drag race.

Really? Its actually been proven for years now with countless dyno's. The average E55 dyno is 420whp, which equates to over 500bhp.

Although there have been dynoes done on 175 mm pulley before, we would like to start from scratch and build a car with our parts, one part at a time.
Our first performance stage will be called VR550. 550 represents HP level.
We have discussed AMGs HP rating of M113 Kompressor engine in the past. In E and CLS it is rated at 469HP, in CL, SL, S and G it is rated at 493HP. In reality it makes the same power in all chassis and it is very close to 500HP. (One exception is 2003 and 2007/2008 SL55s, those had 80 mm TBs from the factory and were rated at 510HP).
On average, 55s make between 410-430 RWHP. If we use 420 as an average number, and 16%-17% drivetrain loss - 420/0.84 = 500HP.
Our goal is to add another 50HP (45RWHP) through our crank pulley kit and custom software tune. So, we have selected an 2006 E55 with 18K miles for testing and development purposes.
As you can see on the graph below, this car is a perfectly average E55 with 420RWHP.
Tomorrow, we are going to install our pulley kit and see what kind of power it adds, than we are going to tune it with Powerchip assistance and we should be at our goal of 465 RWHP.
Stay Tuned!![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)

Let's just put it this way, by the time his car gets on the ball you'll have an insurmountable lead, so long as you can launch the thing without going up in a puff of smoke. Then even after he gets in the powerband, he's going to have to shift like Colin McRae in his prime in order to keep his momentum, and I cannot say enough just how difficult this is with this engine/tranny combo.

I love BMW's and have always loved the M3 but I just don't think that the current car has what it should. I think that buying a 335i and getting it modded would be a better deal than getting the current M3, IMO

Now, if you want to go fast in straightline and have a enough money or just stupidity to invalidate a brand new cars warranty then I agree the 335i makes sense as when vishnu'd it'll hit some big mph.

I showed my friend whoz getting the M3 what you guys were saying and hes said "Of course they going to say E55 wins, they all own a mercedes but if you go to a BMW forum see what they say about it". I find it too funny lololl. He agreed to the loser paying for a meal also lolll.

Well I drive an M5, and unlike your buddy I've had a good amount of seat time in a new M3, and I'll tell him to his face that he's going to lose, bad. Just ask him this, does he think the new M3 can stand up to an M5? Because if it can't then what makes him think it could stand up to the Mercedes equivalent of the M5?

oh hell no...new M3 don't stand a chance. unless you talking about track....but who cares about track?
414hp 295lb torqe is ****.....don't get hyped by the hp, it means nothing...
with that sorry torqe. It won't even come close especially on daily driving.
it is made to hang with RS4.

anybody that ocassionally follows performance cars would already know the answer.
M3's trap around 111 so far in North American Tests (on average)
Maybe witht he Dual Clutch Manual it will be able to pick up another 1 or 2 miles... with an extra gear. (YET to be tested here in North American) at least that I know.
either way.. a good average driver that knows the E55's "likes and don't likes" should be able to pull away or stay ahead.
if you have a bad pump.. or don't know how to deal with the torque on the launch you will forever be on Youtobe and labeled "Owned by M POWER"
M3 with Daul Clutch and good driver would be very close and we have yet to see the 0-150 times of such a car.

Here is a little write up regarding the new tranny. It is a bit quicker to 60 or 62 but nothing like the M5 which is 4/10 quicker with SMG

Road and Track had it at 114.8mph. However, autocar had it slower than the RS4, which i guess was down to launch.
As for the poster saying track doesn't matter it does as it's indicative of all round handling.
New M3 is a great car and 295lb/ft is plenty. However, the car is no match in a straightline for the E55 or E63 but net/net it was never designed to be.

Same here, I was a victim of M3 and RS4 (M5...almost)....but I am glad that found my AMG first.
