Why I Still Own an E55

As I continue to search for a 65 or a P-Car, I am using my 55 more while we enjoy this great weather around the Big Apple.

Last night, driving home at 9 pm with the sunroof open, air conditioner blowing cool air in my face, temp gauge showing 78 degrees outside, I punched it at 56 mph. Rear end kicked out and the ESP intervened. Gotta love power.

Any car that can break loose at highway speeds with the A/C on on a warm night on good tires is a thrill ride.

Just thought I would share that.

Drives Slowly
When I first saw the thread title, I was thinking the reason was......... because you can't unload it?

Haha, I agree my E puts a smile on my face every time I get into it and that's why I'm keeping mine at least two more years.

Thankfully I can afford to keep it for as long as "I have a breath in me..." I've been through too much and put to much moola into this to see someone else have it...

Definitely a great feeling..... I love every second I'm in my car that sometimes I just get out of my way to drive it

Real Cars
I can say I have a slight MB/AMG mental condition, and honestly, can identify. After defecting for a year when I sold my '03, I never quite found anything that did everything for me like the 55 did. I mean even within the MB family the E55 is just such a perfect package. Not too big, not too small, sporty yet refined. After getting back my car after Stage 1, it's like puppy love all over again. These cars are just great pieces of machinery. Was blasting down Lake Shore Drive here in Chicago today in the 55, 75F, beautiful scenery, ~700lb/ft of torque at my feet... LIFE IS GOOD

Yup.. I agree.. I've owned everything from Ferraris, Porsches, Lambos.. you name it.. I used to change cars every 6 - 8 months because I would eventually get bored..

For whatever crazy reason, the 55 is the ONLY car I've ever owned for 3yrs now... I can't explain it myself, but, just something about the complete package that keeps me from wanting to let it go.

A slow Tahoe!
Everytime I think about selling it someone comes up and tells me how bad they would love to have my car, it takes two seconds for the thought to go away becuase I don't want to be "that guy".

I bet SleeperX and E55Russ and others X-e55'ers go through a serious case of withdraw at least twice a week. I don't think I could handle the withdraw at this time I'm keeping it.

I hear you.

I was contemplating getting rid of the E55 for an E55 wagon.....then I realized that I couldn't give her up. She might just get a fatter sister.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
I have kept my 05 E55 for exactly the same reason. The last cold snap, the temp was 50F and I was merging onto the interstate. I stomped it (no traction control on, as is my routine) and drifted sideways into the right lane. Totally in control but getting the others on the road's attention, they backed off and away from "that maniac". No other cars have the torque to do that.

I've driven everything on the market to try to trigger the desire to trade but havent found anything else to compare. My Vette doesn't get used much these days either. I'm just going to keep the 55 and hand it down to my son when he's 30. HA HA
