885lb-ft AMG Coming!! Base AMG to get 570HP / 665lb-ft!!
About freaking time!!
According to a new report, AMG will replace its still-new 6.2L V8 and 5.5L V12 twin-turbo engines with a brand new 5.0L V8 twin-turbo. There are several reasons behind the decision: the new 6.2L has horrendous fuel consumption at full throttle and it lacks the low-end grunt of the previous supercharged 5.5L V8.
There will be several versions of the new force-fed 5.0L mill, a base version with 570hp and 665lb-ft of torque to replace the 6.2L V8 and a high-output 700hp/885lb-ft unit to replace the 612hp V12. There will also be a hybrid variant dubbed ‘BluePower’. Other innovations include a new electrically operated direct-drive gearbox that provides faster and more efficient gearshifts than the current range of automatics.

See in believe it when I see it mode. Last we heard, AMG was gonna single handedly save the whales, spotted owl and planet in one fell swoop. Sure hope I am wrong. Those are some awesome numbers.

aren't you the guy who sold the AMG to buy a lesux? and complained of gas mileage in AMGs. that 700hp AMG will get less than 8mpg.

AMG has a plan in place to use small turbines on the roof of the car to stop emissions from heading into the atmosphere and funneling them back into a small can which can be later converted into fuel for reuse. Many speculate the AMG emission canister's will be readily available by 2009. The head of The emission canister project Mr. Nomar Poolution has high hopes AMG can eliminate the cars carbon footprint completely

Now, they're talking about releasing an even more powerful engine and more torque. Not that I'm complaining, but I just hope that they actually do it before it's too late
