Umm,say it aint so...

Are our E63's really worth $50k at trade-in?I had Manheim #'s from a month or so ago&they were low to mid $60k....That being said....

My wife has been nagging me for sometime(since 12/04 exactly)for a replacement for her C5 Vette that I uncerimoniously destroyed by managing to hit a nice sized deer on my way home from the gym.Car was basically totaled....Got the new C55&the rest is history.
But,since the modding bug is embedded in my genes I (she)got me thinking about the C6 Z06.Its a monster, but I need to HIGHLY MODIFY so the stronger LS3 was the neatural choice.Had our sights set on a sweet '08 Corvette coupe w Z51 option;and soon after taking it home it was going to get a Procharger, cam, headwork, exhaust, etc so I could have a nice sporty 600rwhp streetcar that would make wifey&I both happy........

Until the salesman came back&said "We can give you $50k cash for your car,we spoke to 2 major M-B dealers&with all the incentives on '08's yours is only worth $50,000...." My wife's face turned bright red&before she had us ejected from the dealership for unruly behavior & I thanked the salesman for his time& grabbed the Mrs. and left.

Seriously,is this all these are worth? I mean I've heard of low-balling but this is ridiculous.KBB & NADA list trade-in value right around $70k but we all know the auctions dictate what actual trade-in is.
I swear I will never buy another AMG again as it seems the E63 depreciates more than an SL65

Sorry for the rant, had to vent

Rob, that dealer is full sh*t..... I just did a nationwide search for 2007 E63 on AutoTrader and Cars.com, and found that the average selling price was between $63k to $73k.... If you want to get rid of it, make sure you sell it privately; yes it will take longer and will require some patience, but you'll get a much better deal.

The dealer was doing his job. Gouging. Seriously, that may have been a legit offer, low-ballin in this market is justified. This is a buyer's market, not a sellers right now. Bad for seller's, and looks to be getting worse. AMG's can be had on the cheap, in all models. Many are going for less than $65K (and well on down) in the 06-07 models in the CLS/E/S family. It is what it is.

True, he may get more privately, but then again...why? Savvy buyers go to to ind dealers that buy through Mannheim, eBay, etc. Something I noticed, the trend for E55/63's the values and prices sold for are really low as opposed to other AMG's. I wonder why is that? Any insight anyone?

PS. - Gixxer, I hope you can get a better deal than that on your e63, the $50K offer SUCKS.

The price advertised may not be the selling price at AutoTrader and Cars.com
One year old cars are the hardest to sell cause it is too easy to buy new.

I would say the dealer is afraid of getting stuck with that car and is trying to make sure the can sell it for a good profit. Here's the latest from Manheim:

I figured as much on the prices, judging from I had seen on Manheim, eBay, etc.. In GA about the same or worse.

everything and anything
Would the resale values on the E's have anything to do with the fact that the new E class is around the corner?

don't trade it in. it just isn't the time right now. It is hard to ask someone to buy a used vs leasing a new one. Odd thing is I didn't think the E63 had that many incentives in it. The E350 has a good $15k with all said. The friggin C300 and C350 had NONE. Trust me. It hurt paying as much for a C than I did the day before for an E.

In some ways. Few people hold off on buying a daily for new bodies. I'd guess that the only people "waiting" on the new body style are current or recent MB people. But, you make a good point. This body style is dated and the MSRP doesn't reflect the actual prices so many go over to BMW (who is releasing many new models) / Audi (you tell me why) / Lexus, etc. Reality is that a comparable E is cheaper to be had than all the comparable models from the competitors, simply because the others don't have the deals. BMW is now starting a campaign of zero down leases. Too bad all these great deals go away for the new models. The new E will be the sh it

You can. But break down the cost. You need to put a lump down and you will still be looking at HUGE monthlies.

not even close to a MB, but it hauls 10,000 lbs
I'm amazed how much these cars depreciate. I can't afford one yet, (without selling other vehicles) but there is a light at the end of the tunnel.
I'm hoping in a year or two have enough saved to buy an 06 CPO E55 for cash. Or maybe a 2007 E63 by the time I save up $40k.
We just paid off our other four vehicles since the new year - an 07 Tundra and an 05 Odyssey, and two 2007 motorcycles and I don't want another car payment ever again.

I don't care how fast these cars are, the 55/63 are overpriced to begin with ( and don't get me started with the 911).

I think I see it the same way you do. When the AMG version is 2x the cost of the car upon which it is based I think we all have to shake our heards and realize the car will flop in value.

E350's are 50k Base and and E63 with the options is 90-100k new. The car is not twice as good being that its the same thing with a bigger motor, larger brakes, better suspension, and a upgraded leather interior. Same story holds true for the C63 and the C300.... 2x the money but at least that C63 has ungraded front suspensions (and steering systems) etc where the W211 is just different settings on the spring and shocks etc.

AMG and MB make a good amount selling us these fancy cars but we still love them!

But even the average prices in the auction (per pass in post # above) is around $60k. I'm not saying the cars don't depreciate, I'm just saying that $50k figure is not realistic.

The engine is very expensive, you are actually getting a good deal when considering the upgrades. To me going from 500 hp to 280 is not an option. Once you have gotten used to it , well you either bump it up or simply do not drive.

Hell I thought my 540 was fast then I drove the E55, LOL. HP is addictive, and they will price it out at what people are willing to pay. Right now is a GREAT TIME for buyers to hold firm and get some 20k discounts. Look at the SL 550, there are HUGE deals on this car BRAND NEW

Another feature of owning a 100k Benz is you may save your life or your families life. To me that is worth a premium, the safety features are bar none the best in the industry.

Jangy, but in this case, wouldn't it be much better for someone to buy one year used (almost brand new) for $50k
Even if they only put $5k down, the payment would be around $700 to $800 vs $1200 if they lease..... I think buying the car used for that low is an awesome deal. One can avoid a big chunk of depreciation and can end up owning the car

Buyers market or not,it's still disgusting how dealers need to azz-rape customers like there is no tomorrow.I figured out what was going on;we were getting the vette at invoice, the dealer needs to make money somehow so they obviously will get it back on your trade. They sell all their vettes at invoice,so their worst possible customer would be one who has no trade-in vehicle.
It's insane how not even a year ago dealers were charging $10-15,000 over msrp for a Z06;now they are sold at dealer invoice,or basically $8,000 off sticker on average

06 E55 low 30's in miles fully loaded are already $49K.
