Palo Alto cops occasionally set up road blocks downtown and pull people without front plates over and give out fixit tickets. Saw 3 or 4 the last times we were there.

Marin cops will bust you in an instant for no front plates or tinted fronts. Be carefull.

City cops don't really care. It is once you roll accross the Gate that the cops swarm on you.

My two other rides have never had them, no issues East Bay / South Bay. What sucks is my 55 came with the front plate, haven't had time to yank off and clean up.

in the city and in mill valley... 4 black cars , no front plates, hell 2 of my cars i haven't put the rear plates on in order to make it difficult for meter maids to give out tickets. was pulled over on 4-20 on way to Cypress hill show, just did a sneaky reset. car peeled half way up the block... cop was right next to me. pulled me over and i told him traction control was off, he laughed and let me proceed to the show after telling me to look on my sides the next time ....

In SF, they are VERY agressive about enforcing it. The fine is $100 since 2005 or so.

You can be parked legally, no expired meter, etc and you'll have a ticket for no front plate.

Years ago I got one back when they were $25, parked in a neighborhood with no parking violations.

true. have front plat now as came with 55. bought bumper plugs to fill the plate holes-just deciding if i should do. the plugs are a perfect color match to amg brlnt silver.

I like the cleaner look of no front plate as well - my bumper was never drilled.

I put the plate on the inside of windshield and dash - they can't claim it isn't visible from front of the car...

If I get tired of seeing it, I can remove it at will. Just don't want to shell out $$ for a stupid law like that.

Been busted without it before, now I always have a front plate on my cars. Not worth the one time I could get hassled "after the game", on the way home from dinner, etc. It's like the tinted-front windows thing. Why give em an excuse to examine you more closely?

I live in Marin, and knock on wood, so far haven't had any trouble. I will not park on the street in San Francisco with the E55 b/c I'll get a front plate ticket in 2 seconds. I'll only park in a private garage in the city.

I have no front plate and a German-style rear plate!!

I have never had front plates on any of my cars. Never had a problem here in the South Bay.

But when I was in LA, I got tickets all the time for no front plate in parking lots. I even got pulled over once, just for no license plate!!!

Fleebee has the coolest set up. His front license is secured magnetically. I gotta tell you, anyone who can mass produce this for our E55 is gonna make $$$$$$$$$$$$$. Anyone interested.......I would be first in line

not from bay area but i'm glad i don't have front plate brackets...
CA law must change! should get hollywood involved in this...

if i ever do get a ticket, i'll just have my cop friend sign it off
