buckeyewalt, where did you get the 17 hp improvement figure is not accurate. Vadim said, filters by themselves are worth 5 to 7 rwhp .

It is a much larger capacity airbox...more air = more power...what else is there to get? I did not take actuall cubic inch measurements but I would guess it is 25-28% larger than stock. While my car was being modded by Evosport they discovered that the stock intake was a huge handicap on my car, holding back on lots of HP, when they where writing the ECU program they could tell the engine was being choked. This was the one area the feel they left lots of power on the table. They did their best to modify the stock unit and found a few more ponies. The opening of the tubes are very small and obstructed (on the BS). We (Evosport and I) have already started working on a new ram air style hood and airbox for my car, however I am not going to be sending my car back out to Evosport in Cali until late fall. I figured in the mean time I would give this airbox a shot, it's only $1800 and if it even gives me 10 whp I will be happy.

The air filters made 10whp? Where are the dynos? Are they sold seperately for E55 airboxes? Is there any guarantee that the foam filters wont break apart and get sucked into the engine? I know, I ask too many questions

Jeff, let me know when you want to hit the track, I'll go run my car too. Wanna see what the intake and replacing the bad O2 sensor will do for my car.

jrcart- I guarantee you will not see a 0.5s reduction of ET in your 1/4 mile time from just an airbox/filters

Look at the dyno results that Vadim has posted. The first was base, the second was with undersize pullys, the third was with the VRP high flow filters...the results to me were impressive enough for me to believe that the stock box with the vrp filters will give you + 17 hp..I probably will go with this combination.

I totally agree with you and what you did for your car.....not knowing what the stock box looks like, ( I assume it probably looks like mine, or something similar ), I thought more air into the motor was the best was of getting more hp as you thought also. I was only trying to see which was the the best and most effective. Look at the link that Vadim has provided which was the one I was refering too, that whole package will give you around 25+ hp for about a grand. I don't know if this would work for a BS, but I don't see why it wouldn't.

I am fine with that. I can bring stock boxes and filters with me to track one day with the VRP setup and do some testing if others want to lend a hand switching back and forth

I know I will not see a .50 second reduction in E/T from only the airbox and filters, but with the airbox/filters, weight reductions, and no 40mph plus crosswind I should. I think I said I want to run a 12.00 flat on my Corsa and 11.50's on slicks. If I don't I'm going to be real suprised. I ran a 12.19 with insane crosswinds a couple weeks ago so a 12.00 or even high 11 should be attainable if there is no wind and the airbox is really good for an extra 15+ ponies. One other tidbit, that 12.19 pass had a crummy 1.9 60 ft, I have put down a few 1.75 and 1.76 60 footers in this car so I know it is attainable.

I will do the same, as soon as this Saturday as long as I have some help turning wrenches. Mine is a little more complex than your E, I have a strut tower brace that needs to be removed along with some wiring harnesses.

jrcart,

I personally try not to focus on my ET's so much as my trap speed, ET's are very traction/60ft dependent, but your traps will be the proof in the pudding of any HP gains.

My car makes MPH like it's going out of style, the 12.19 pass was at over 119 mph, again with a HUGE crosswind that nearly blew me off the track when I cleared the grand stands at the end of the strip.

Sounds good. I am curious to some early numbers from you. I realize that your are in a very different car then me, so you might see more then me, gains wise.

This install was very easy with a good fully charged power drill with 3 bits to rotate between. When i goto the track we should be able to switchy these out in 15 minutes with people helping. Its a very easy job on the E class.

As far as the boxes go I went from a stock box with stock filters in it(no charcoals) to this larger VRP box with the high flow filters(seems the Renntech ECU is really liking this additional air coming in!). I am experiencing huge new grunt to the car. Its like a new car again! The beast is becoming unleashed!!!

Jcart, keep us posted about what you see this weekend.

Maybe if I can talk Ahmad or Jay into going to the track sometime in the next week or so I will be able to provided some feedback too.

Jeff- I dont need any convincing. Next friday night looks like it can be a good night for some racing. We can go to crapitol since its closer than MIR.

jrcart- I am sure if your car made 500whp you will run solid 11's with a good launch and should be trapping 120+ I just meant the airbox alone would not reduce by ET by THAT much. I think we are on the same page. Good luck at the track! Rep for the CLK's!!!

Correction to my earlier post. I talked to my mechanic at my shop that installed my new airbox, the strut tower brace did NOT have to be removed for installation, he was able to wiggle it in there.

Also Vic, my car did not have VRP filters in it. Not sure what Evosport put in there but they are not foam, they are paper. I'm gonna try to make a few few passes with each filter as well.

On 63 we use gauze filters. Do they have orange flanges?

the 63's filter you included in your package is one of the strangest looking filters I have personally seen, but can say I am happy with airflow
and mine is the one with orange flanges

Did you notice this new grunt with ONLY the airbox and filer mod ?? If so, I'm getting one.

I have ECU too. ECU was done 6 months ago...and yes I noticed additional grunt right away with the box and high flow filters.

Uh you may wanna post up yer trap speed as 119+ would be a 63 record and should be documented. you likely tossed the timeslip???? EGADS

Rained out, I was on my way to the track when i got a call from ChicagoX telling me it was cancelled due to rain. I am going to attend a test and tune on Tuesday night at Route 66 Speedway, but sometimes these things get crowded and time only allows for 3-4 passes, probably not enough to come up with an accurate conclusion about gains from CF airbox.

On another note, I think that Evosport kept the stock filters in my car????, upon closer inspection they appear to be paper, have a pinkish color flange and the say AMG in black ink.
