If I may, let me be the umpteenth person to say that this thread is f'ing AWESOME.

I'm glad the two OPs who got scammed got their money back, and I can't believe how supportive this community was/is of its members. In a kinda heart-warming, tear-jerking, utterly satisfying sort of way. This is just another proof of the fact that online communities can sometimes be more "community-like" than some offline ones. Awesome is all I can say.

And I'm sure the guy will get his. In one way or another.

HeirKranz; It sounds like you are familar with the whole credit card fraud industry. I would be curious to know if there is a way to find out if he is using these peoples credit card numbers in other ways or for other transactions. Once he gets their name, account number and 3 digit security codes it's like having a blank check.

Have any of you that have had dealing with the perp had any other red flags or fraudulant charges on the credit card you used with him?

am i correct in remembering him saying that he was paying cash for his cars? The federal government requires an 8300 form for a cash transaction in excess of $10,000 dollars so that they can determine where the funds originated from. The feds dont like when youre hiding money from them!!

Thats right and he will be brought up on tax charges that I would imagine that he would have to pay a heavy fine or might go to jail. What amount does the IRS throw you in jail?

Even if the law/authorities don't charge him in fast & timely manner, I say reveal his full identity so he can be owned all over the web... Just like that Mexican kid scammer. The real story here isn't the alleged scammer, it's the Net community and the volunteer investigative work & access to resources, and the support that has come in from the other car boards. benzcru is inconsequential! Since this has been posted we've had assistance from attorneys, I think some law enforcement (wasn't clear if that's what some of the folks are), credit card people, network techies, photoshop wizards, and lots of good old-fashioned legwork.

I would not that if he is using google checkout, by PCI standards, the perp would not see the CVV (3 digit code) and only the last 4 of the card unless it was given to him directly....it would be encrypted, but if he has his own SHOPPING CART you might have a problem and go after him in a worse way, especially if he is doing more than one transaction.....on that note

Google checkout is within reach, but not on my specific platform, it might be a conflict of interest so i have to be cautious on how I present the information and to who, Also goole checkout has their own fraud team that will send it to the back end processor. I have some numbers and will do some research on this end but i will need some additional information and the affected people will have to come forward and present this to the fraud team at google first, and if that does not work then the processor themselves....through experience though you have to escalate these matters through the correct groups in order for thwem to substantiate the claims and it could take a little bit for them to do the research and call the appropriate law enforcement agency, especially due that this is a cyber crime issue.

Also, a little credit card 101, most businesses have a front end and a back end processor for transactions (one processes, the other settles and sends the info to the bank) ---so even a third party like google that will sign them up through a specific processor might have to look into this first

Also we need the people to come forward that never recieved a refund

BTW google's back end processor is FirstData (aren't they all though!)

 

GoogleCheckout has his bank info to disburse the funds too.

That will show his adress and name.
