OMG -Lexus LF-A Supercar Will Cost ~$225,000

SANTA MONICA, California — After three auto show appearances and the occasional spy photo and video from Germany's high-speed Nürburgring test circuit, it's no secret that the Lexus LF-A supercar concept is headed for production. With an estimated 500 horsepower coming from the LF-A's 5.0-liter V10, we didn't expect the Lexus to come cheap, but Inside Line has learned that the car will carry a price tag over $200,000.

It will be the fastest production one available, if it's made. Until I can sit in the saddle as a consumer, it's all BS.

Personally I would rather have a 2009 SL63 and a GT-R for about the same money.

Wow. That's impressive.

Still...I dunno. A Lexus will always do what it's supposed to do pretty well...that's nothing new. In this case, it's go fast while running the curves, and it obviously does it well.

But that's never been the problem with Lexus. It's the feel that they can't seem to get right. They have never been able to make a car that feels, rides, or sounds like a real sports car, regardless of how well it may perform. So I hope that for $200k, it doesn't wind up feeling like an LS with stiffer seats and suspension when you're in it...

F! Bravado

Here
This car is the ultimate dream car to me. It has it all. The sound of an F1 race car, just listen to the youtube video. The speed of a race car and the comfort of a Lexus. Oh wait, did I mention it looks absolutely amazing with the reliability of Lexus. You really can't go wrong. Serious car. Serious money..

a car that gets very poor gas mileage.
If these reports are true, I don't think Toyota will be able to move very many of these off their lots.

Regardless whether or not this car will spank a Nissan GTR or Porsche GT2 around the Ring, you have to think about the potential customers who are looking for a car in this segment of the market. It's in the same price range as a F430, the new LP560-4, GT2, Continental GTC, and quite possibly the upcoming SL Black Series.
That's a tough crowd. And to say you spent $200K on a Toyota isn't really the best way to brag about anything.

Perhaps this car is being built as a precursor to the new Supra. I think Toyota may sell this in very limited numbers (look for the debut of the LF-A this weekend at the 24H Nurburgring) and then water it down to what may be the foundation of the next Supra.

Lexus can go eat a bag of DI*KS for all I care. 200K on a toyota is dumbest thing since peanut butter and wonder bread sandwiches. I don't care how fast it is, or how reliable it is, or how it looks.

People that buy cars in that price range are not buying for any of those reasons. I would take a Ferrari, bentley, or Lambo anyday over a toyota.

I spit out my coffee when i read that BS. but hey, I'm just an Ahole with an opinion so, what do I know.

I find it rather funny that Toyota gets painted as a dull unimpressive company. They are the fastest growing automaker ever and the Lexus Brand has done the very same thing. They are amazing vehicles and just work. You don't have to spend enough time with your S.A. to know his family. I bought my LX470 2 years ago which is my 4th Lexus and it has never been to the dealer other than scheduled maintenance. ON the other hand my Mercedes has already had $5000 worth of parts exchanged. Since when did it become ok to be less reliable because it is expensive? We are the consumer. We get to say what is right. The Ferarri brand as well is Mercedes have been in the business of high end cars longer. So what? I realize some people are so shallow they do not care about exchanging the number on their sl500 to say 600. Some people are still trying to keep up with the Jones'. Personally I am going to skip all of that crap and get the absolute best product for the money. Hey wait a minute, it looks like the Lexus beats every other car in the price range in everything except the subjective ones like looks. Can it go fast? Yes. Can it out corner a Ferrari? Yes. Does it sound awesome? Yes. Will it be reliable? Yet to be determined but most likely yes. Does it have the prestige of your neighbor's overpriced pig of a Bentley coupe? That all depends on how the hype plays out. I do find it humorous that the richest people in the world that EARNED their money don't usually buy high-end cars. They are smart. Heh. What a concept.

I have to disagree with you on some of those points.

Many Wealthy people are not like Warren Buffet and Drive a Buick which by the way has surpassed Lexus in reliability.

My co-worker hates his new LS460 because the build quality is worst than his old LS430.

I also hate to break it to you, I spoke with a few extremely wealthy people that worked their way from the bottom and one bought a Ferrari for just over 5 million and the other paid over 7 million for his Ferrari. Wealthy people buy nice cars for many reasons. Some because they can and they enjoy them.

If I was in position to blow 200K I assure you Lexus will be the last thing on my mind and if was that wealthy reliability would not be an issue because I am not looking for a car to put a million miles on.

you'll get plenty of looks in the LF-a but, probably for the wrong reasons. This car is way over priced and if given the choice an F430 would be sitting on my garage for 200K. I think the Ferrari experience would be far more enjoyable.

there's toooo many options out there for that kind of money.

The problem with this car is the price range, the competition is too huge for people to buy a Lexus over other exotic cars!

Also, last time I checked Lexus doesn't have the history of building super cars, which is definitely going to hurt sales for this car.

This car would do a lot better if it was priced around $120-140K when you go into the $200,000 territory you are are playing with the big boys..and sorry a Lexus isn't going to win!

I dunno man, look at its times...it roasts some cars that cost multiples as much as it does, and have a lot more power.

What if Lexus could get the feel and sound of the Ferrari but it had the Lexus emblem on the front? Would you still say it sucked? My allegiance is with the best car for the money. I would also have to dispute you saying that wealthy people will not care about reliabilty. How do you think Lexus is the biggest Luxury brand in the US? Nobody wants to sit around a dealership waiting on a car to get fixed and even moreso when it was $200k. I love Ferraris and I would love to have one just for the look alone. Heck i wish they would put the LF-A out for a lot less too. Somebody has to pay for all that carbon fiber though. Mark my words. It will sell out at above asking price.

I never said the car sucked, but make no mistake it does not compare with Ferrari. just look at the history of both companies and it's like apples to oranges. Ferrari does want to be another toyota and Lexus racing heritage is as short as a miget on his knees. unlike Ferrari Lexus car do not increase in value and probably never will. 30 years from now can you imagine driven around in an old as ES250. hey atleast it will still run, but it will be worthless. Ferrari is about art, lexus....making sure every screw is tight.

the dealer will try to sale the car over sticker, but it will not command a price like Ferrari does. hell the GTB is going for 550K, 200K over sticker.

My evo8 would have beat the pants off a LF-A on the track. with 550WHP and track tuned suspension i was kill a lot of cars, but it's a POS compared to Ferrari. my evo was a great car for the mony and reliable as hell with all the mods, but it will always be a mitsubishi.

also track times are very subjective. put an average driver behind the wheel of an LF-A and see what kind of time is clocked.
