Between those three, I would go with the Alpina.

I would say aplina because its rare but the new 7 is released in a couple days (pics at least) and I dont think that will help the cars re-sale very much.

I always have had a respect for the QP but be ready for quality issues. Still a great drivers car.

In the end the S63 slightly used might be your best bet!

if i had a choice between the 3, i'd choose in the followin order...

1) QP - how many do u see them on the road?
2) S550 - and let steve put tons of factory mods to it!
3) Alpina - cuz other 2 are on the top of the list...

I just bought a S550 Artic White Designo so I am prejudiced. Beautiful car and loaded with tech toys.

ALPINA!!

Although the new 7-series is coming out this car is rare and will still hold its value and status. Its a really fun car to drive considering its size.

Do you really live in Southern Cali? Those QP's are everywhere- I see as many of them as I do M3s.

For what it's worth, I'd take the S but the power of the Alpina is undeniable.

The Alpina was not all that great for me - this is my opinion and I drove one at length.

It has a centrifugal supercharger that only gets going as the car does and the car starts in 2nd gear unless you use the tiny steering wheel shift buttons.

The car once moving at 40 mph then starts to pull like a train but down low it was just too slow and numb for me. Something that is normally not associated with BMW (numbness). As for the handling the car seemed to project reasonably in the curves for a 5k lb plus car but its not as great as some of the mags have claimed. I found it soft with body roll at even lower speeds.

Visually its very appealing to me though with those 21 inch Alpina Blades but its just not the car I thought it was- its the 745i engine with a blower.

I agree with other posters that a slightly used or demo S63 would be a better choice.

Thanks a bunch, Vic. I haven't driven one and now you make me look like a fool. I'm going to hunt you down. Fullerton is your general area, I know (well used to know) a Korean girl down there- I'll see if she's connected. Expect a Kawasaki drive by some time soon sucka.

Haha Carl aka Nick Fullerton is not my main area ... but I do roll at the Slide Bar sometimes.

I didnt mean to show you up but my impressions of that car visually probably led me to believe the performance would be equally satisfying. After reading up on the car and seeing a few vids on it I was going to get that car in January of this year. I got a smoking lease payment on it (quote) and after I drove it, I walked sorry I ran.

Maybe I was spoiled with super hp cars (996TT stage III, CL65, Modded E55) but it was a big let down. The supercharger is terrible and that 2nd gear thing just killed it. So I ended up with the 997TT instead- different worlds but a very happy one.

Id go B7 between the S550 and the B7, but Id perfer older S63. And dont even think about the QP until you drive it. I cant imagine sleeping at night knowing that I spent that kind of money on a QP. IMO

u don't see them unless u go to certain "spots" where more exotic cars are proned to be found...
my whole point is QP is rarely seen on the street in comparison with S550...
whether ur neighborhood has more QP than S550, i don't care...
i'm just stating what i'd choose if i had a choice out of the 3 mentioned...

But in all honesty, The QP tranny is crap. And paddle shifters that dont turn with the steering wheel? The paddles are needed for shifting in turns, and how is someone who is driving the "correct" way gonna be able to utilize paddles that are stationary?

If you are going to buy..I don't know if you should choose the B7 because the 7 series is suppose to have a new redesign in the next year or so, and your car will look dated! But if you don't care about that then it could be a wise choice.

Go drive all 3 of them and then see which you like the best!

Alpina B7, not just for the performance, which as Vic stated, doesn't kick off until 2nd gear, but for the rareness of the car and the look of the whole package (which I like).
