If I'm not mistaken when you replace normal bulbs with hid bulbs you retain the stock lens which is set-up for a regular halogen bulb. The gov has determined this causes to much glare and is a potential danger to other motorist.

I had them on the headlights and fog lights on my diesel truck before, talk about bright.

Exactly, unfortunately too many people use hid kits in the low beam head lamp that was designed for a halogen bulb, the product is a head lamp with super bright light that is out of control and usually aimed incorrectly. It is a good idea to use an OEM xenon HID for the low beam as they leak less light in to the on coming drivers eyes. I have the OEM Bi Xenon Low beams. That said, I did my high beams cause my place on the west coast FL is super rural and we have way too many wild animals running around at night. If any one is thinking of doing this I would advise against it. It is just way too bright and the 50 watt bulbs can cause eye damage. Oo==oO
Here are some alternatives

They all work quite well, however the 100 watt bulbs will overheat the lamp and wiring.

Seems like a helluva lot work, why not just buy the HID's installed in the car from the factory to begin with? Time is money my friend and that looks like a major task that is gonna eat up a lot of time.

jrcart,
I have the OEM BiXenon. The part you may have missed is that I replaced the halogen High beam (all W211 have halogen high beam from factory). I believe all Mercedes Benz cars have halogen high beams. The problem is, we can over drive them in the blink of an eye. The stock BiXenon have great range, but the 50 watt HID is 5 times brighter and has a much larger envelope. You can see them at MIR in Nov.
