E63 tops at 205 mph

I thought that top speed for E63 was around 180.

Funny article they got a minimal increase which is what we have all seen from ECU tuning and air flow 10-20hp yet they got an extra 20 mph out of the car which should top outat 186 mph. That is AMAZING that they got her to 205 with hardly any hp and tq increase. My car likely hits 210 then LOL.

Thanks for the post 205 is crazy in a sedan

Wow!! That is fast, indeed. I would love to see what these cars can do on top end. Salt Lake, anyone??

Seeing is believing...but I still don't believe it. After numerous top speed attempts in my modded BS I have yet to break 206 mph. The car hits a wall at 206. My car makes 600 hp at the crank over 500 at the wheels and it's lighter and most likely has a lower drag coefficient than an E class. The only thing that might be slowing me down is my larger rear lip spoiler, after reading this story I'm tempted to take it off to see how much faster it will go.

Check the drag coefficient because you'd be suprised at how, although your car may look much more aerodynamic, the E might have a better coefficient...

Also, yes, the rear spoiler, side mirrors, etc limit your top speed. But I'm sure that rear lip plays a little roll in keeping your car planted at top speeds too.

You are correct, I just checked both the CLK 63 BS and the E63 both have a drag coeffient of 0.29, the new C63 is an astounding 0.27. AS for my mirrors, all top speed attempts were made with mirrors folded in.

folded mirrors might just be the cue, because the mirrors are designed to be as efficient as possible. so when they are folded the might even drag more
than you would want too!

wonder if they have a video of this run for goodness sakes youd think they would document such a feat. This is a family sedan no matter how you look at it and topping 200 mph is a very very difficult chore

M5 hits 205mph per BMW specs bone stock (except for limiter removal.) I've hit an indicated 170mph numerous times when it is still pulling like a train, in 6th with revs left and a whole other gear before the governor calls a sudden halt to the fun and the speed flickers 169/170 on the HUD. It's very tied down at these speeds. Are the E/CLS63 less floaty feeling than their 55-counterparts?

For real. Are there ANY events in the US where we can try out top speeds on our cars on actual pavement. Texas has that flying mile and I heard about an event at an Army base in Nevada but those are just 1 mile. Wish we could have a top speed event but I do realize people would be dying left and right so insurance would be impossible to get.

Bonneville and Black Rock have the history but they just are not suitable for street cars with wider tires. Supposed to be terrifying over 100mph on the salt up here with wide tires.

Plus at like 120-130, you get the boot without massive safety features. Already checked out Bonneville.

I asked, "Hey what if some young punk (acutally old punk...ME) were to just get the car up to top speed and defy the rules for one time"
Reply, "Don't think you are the first one to think of this. We delete their time and speed so there is no record for them to take home and brag about and you are banned from the flats."
Me, "Oh....uhhhh, thanks for the time"

I found a place a few miles outside Vegas, it's not legal but there's nobody to screw with you either. It borders some Airforce property, the road is about 5-6 miles long, smooth and straight as an arrow, you can see for miles, no way for the cops to sneak up. Furhtermore, the Vegas local that told me about the spot is a Henderson, NV cop and says that it's a restricted fly zone so you don't have to worry about cops in the air either. The only draw back to the spot is that it is so secluded that god forbid you did need the cops or an ambulance you would die waiting.

The other bad part is I could not give you guys directions on how to get there if I tried, but I could get there again if driving. All I remember is that it is off of 95 near the Indian Springs Air Force auxilary base.

I have this dream of doing a top speed run down famous Monument Valley (Southern UT). Road looks nice, but wonder how smooth she really is. Think the road below is chopped with a darker color. It's actually older pavement.

The road outside Vegas was better than this one, it was flat, no downhill or up hill to deal with and there were no berms on the side of the road, god forbid you make an off road excursion you would most likely be fine and not launch or flip your car into the outer stratosphere. It was a thing of beauty.

jrcart, have you also taken into account the additional aerodynamic work on your car to increase downforce? Downforce will hinder your top speed as well.

And if you look to your right, you will see.......................(taken just before sunset a year and a half ago as I drove through Monument Valley)

Then in your rear view mirror.................(the second one looks like your photo, but from the other side, just after sunset and a few miles down the road from the first photo)

old hat...

I am trying to find this video I saw, like 2 years ago, a bently flying spur going round a track like that @ 208mph w/ 4 people in it, just round and round it went, made like 10 laps consistent at that speed with 4 people in it, amazing. I really want to find this video. RENNTech said they can get the E63 to 227mph. I have been past the 180 mark, I am sure there is no governor on a P30, I had me doing a 193 flyby in a Mischief video (not out yet).

P030 has a 186MPH limit due to tyre ratings, only SLR can go quicker from factory.

Wouldn't it be funny if they showed up to a NASCAR event and qualified it...I would love to see the die-hard nascar fans' faces when a 6000lb car with 4 people in it makes the pole...bahahah

My understanding is that from the factory the E63 is limited to either 155 or 186 (P030) mph. RENNtech does offer removal. I anticipate that if it is limited to 186 that it can go faster. Anyway, not really that important as none of us travel greater than 155 on a regular basis (at least I don't think you guys do)
