2005 E55
So here's my story....

Not a member who typically posts but truly appreciates the insight and information provided on this forum. I know there are more closet members out there that feel the same but for some reason or another don't post often and enjoy simpling reading the posts.

But anyways, I just wanted to share my story of my 05 E55 that was totalled a little over a month ago. Rear ended someone on the freeway and smashed my front end to where engine damaged occurred (first they were going to fix then a week later after they dug deeper in determined to just label it a total loss). I was sooo bummed.....but at the same time sort of OK since I really didn't want a car that would show the accident work on the history.

Bought my ride back in May '07 so I had owned it for 1 year....bought it for $58K w/$91K sticker and 19k miles on it. Pretty much loaded but didn't have the two options I wanted Pano/Sirius. Below are a couple pics of my car prior to the accident (charcoal/merlot interior)

Well, I just settled with my insurance company for the total loss of my vehicle (excluding taxes, registration) for $51,700 (I'll round of #'s to keep simple and at this point was ecstatic to find out I was getting this much). PLUS... a supplemental check is to follow for an additional $1,500-$3,000K (which I'm estimating since they missed about 2k of options on my valuation $89k vs $91k sticker/plus $500 deductible refund (since it was not my fault!)/plus the value for the ceramic tint, cf spoiler, rims (not my stocks which I still have if any is interested in a mint set with the tpms sensors on them) and bluetooth.

So without the supplemental check, which is coming, let's use the $51,600 price they gave me for my car that now has 36k miles on it (and I work out of my home office 80% of the work week) so I had put about 17k miles on it since I bought it for $58k.

I was now in the market considering other makes (m5/quattroporte/750) but kept telling myself I love the beast and do i really want to make a switch? Well, I was scanning ebay one night when all of a sudden....BAM!!!!!! An ad comes up for the following:

2005 MB E55 ONLY 1,858 MILES LIKE NEW!!! IN EXCELLENT CONDITION!!!

I'm like WTF, NO WAY! Albeit, some members may criticize me for buying this at the price I did or that something MUST be wrong with that car to only have 1,858k miles on it being an '05. Well, carfax is clean, and according to the dealer, the previous owner was ONE PICKY OWNER and the car is now at a Lamborghini Dealer waiting to get picked up next week and shipped out to beautiful SOcal just in time for the summer.

I lost out on keyless go (I will def miss as one of my fav options) and voice activation (never used anyways) and will miss my charcoal/merlot interior, but picked up Sirius...no pano but oh well...the mere FACT of knowing I'm going from a 36k beast to one with 1,800 miles tells me I'm practically getting a new car so how could I not consider this? Well, the decision was made and I did it.

I paid $51,750 (asking was $54/I offered $51,500 and settled) for the car which is why to me was a no brainer to make the deal. I will be able to replace my totalled vehicle that had 36k miles to one with 1,800k and didn't have to put a penny out of pocket with shipping and may be able to still pick up a mod or two (cf lip/tint).

I feel real good with my decision with no regrets knowing I will continue to be an E55 owner and hope you fellow members agree. I can't wait to start tracking the shipping truck online (yeah..I'm one of those that logs in 4-5 times a day to see it move from state to state)

Here's the link to the car:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...255891702&rd=1

Sorry for the novel and thanks for allowing me to share my story. BTW, the safety on our cars are without a doubt . I am hurting with a sprained right big toe from the impact and have some issues with tightness in the back and neck but obviously could have been much worse. Ironically, no damage (at least visible) to the other car (SUV where my front end went under the rear bumper).

I am not at fault but the claim is still pending complete closure so I won't get into the details but simply wanted to share my buying experience with you.

I will say this.....my insurance company has a customer for life!

Glad you're ok and that is a cool find.

Just a word of warning though. There were some M5's with miles like that for sale and it turned out that they were used exclusively for BMW track and course training....and was not disclosed. So, basically, they were pushed to their limits since the first mile with no break-in period respected. Anyway, I'm sure you'll be fine as it looks cherry in the pictures....but just be weary of a cars that are a few years old and unordinarily low miles. But I think you'll be fine. Just ask if those are the original tires.

Thanks Steve....you actually lowered my car at Cummings house last year and was a pleasure meeting you.

Thanks for the info....so would you (or anyone for that matter) recommend i go with the dealership warranty (assuming they will extend) and pay the extra$ vs. chryslers?

I believe my warranty will expire in 10/09. I guess I'll see if my local MB dealership with extend it.

thanks

Congrats, beautiful car. But as an aside, I have a question: How did you rear end someone without being at fault?

I was wondering the same thing. Regardless, sounds like it all worked out in his favor.

Thats a beautiful car and you got a great deal. Finding an 05' with less than 2k miles is nearly impossible. It looks brand new inside and out. Enjoy it.

Thanks for the info........

I've been hearing very good things about AAA insurance especially from online reviewers and surveys. I think I'll switch when my next renewal is due.
