Who has been doing them and what are the benefits?

Hello anyone???? maybe there is already a thread somewhere on here about it It would be nice for someone to come up with a program that would allow our transmissions to shift 1-2 seconds faster

I dunno if just programming will work. I expect to start seeing more and more E55s with tranny issues as the miles pile up. My guess is something will break by about 40K miles. I'm hoping to find a replacement to the TQ converter with triple discs and a new program to make it shift snapier once it can handle it.

I bought my E55 with over 40k miles lol.. I sure hope the tranny last longer than that, or I'm screwed.

Didn't mean to jinx you, bro. It is just what feedback I've gotten. You got no warranty?

No warranty. I am looking into an aftermarket warranty, but it's hard to get the hot poop on a reliable one.

Oh crap. Oh well, I guess you can go aftermarkets on things that break.

The E55 transmission is literally bulletproof. It can handle close to 800 lb/ft of torque continuosouly. Perhaps Vadim can chime in on this. The transmission in my dads S65 is pretty similar and with the power that thing puts down its pretty damn solid. I have seen E55's with 100K miles (W211's) and they have no transmission issues at all. If anything, flush the fluid out every 30K miles or so.

i also do not think the 40k mile thing is true, because if it was we would be seeing allot more cars with the problem, and lets face it these cars have been out since 2003.

secondly the 65 transmition is beefed up more

and back on topic with regard to shifting

This is some info i came across regarding Speed Shift Plus

This is what i asked

''When i drive i use sport mode and just down shift with the wheel, when i want to race some one to keep it in the power band.
I find manual mode to be to slow when shifting and that sport mode does it better and shifts its self even when you use the peddle shifters''

Answer i got from a member here

''Well, I own a 2003 SL55, and for me Speedshift Plus was worth the upgrade. I know that the transmission software has been updated in the years too, so perhaps it won't be such a change for your car, I don't know.

Speedshift Plus changes the 3 modes in the transmission (S/C/M) to S/M1/M2. The Comfort mode disappears.

The Sport (Auto) mode was also changed for the better since now then I downshift from D the gear actually goes one gear down (if I were cruising in 4 it goes from D to 3, if I was cruising in 3 it goes from D to 2) whereas the older software went from D->4->3->2->1 no matter which gear I was in. So sometimes (when for example driving in D in 4rd and I want to go to 3rd) I had to press the downshift button 2 times. I know you can get the optimal gear by keeping the downshift pressed but then it could also go from 4rd to 2nd what might not be my intention. In short Sport with the new software gives me more and more intuitive control. AFAIK this behaviour is standard in later (perhaps your?) AMG cars.

Now, more interestingly the Manual modes.

M1 is the old Manual as you know it.

M2 is a much more agressive manual with much faster up- and down shifts. Perhaps even more agressive than an SLR, yet not so agressive as a CLK DTM AMG. I drove both so I could compare it a little bit.

Although I drive in Sport (auto) mode all the time, I find the M2 a really good addition for when I'm really driving it hard through the twisties.

The Speedshift Plus together with the (official AMG) Limited Slip Differential (30% for my car year, 40% for later years) the two best additions to my car.

I also had the larger 030 brakes installed for improved breaking power. But have in mind that the 2003 brakes where prety much underpowered on the SL. They fixed that too in later years.''

Hope it helps some understand better

Not sure what you mean by replacing the torque converter with a triple disc setup. I think you have automatic trans confused with a manual. I do think our cars have alot to gain in terms of shift time. A upgraded torque converter would make alot more power too. I have been seraching for companies that have built mb transmissions before but have had no success. I have considered Level Ten transmissions in Jersey a few times but I have always been hesitant to be a guinea pig when that much money is involved.

No idea what was done and if it even shifts faster etc, but my Kleemann TCU is frickin awesome feeling.

VERY punchy on shifts. Vadim hates it and thinks it's too hard but Victor and I love it. (Victor drove my car in LA)

Would have to guarantee it will shorten tranny life a tick but we'll see.

34K and going strong right now.

I was hoping to get rid of the lag we get now by adding discs for a snapier grab.

Anyone have info on sourcing for all of these tunes, especially the speedshift thing?

Looks good and pretty good prices. Anyone here have any experience with them yet? Looks like I'll have to search some of the Chrysler forums and see if I can find some more info.

I was looking into IPT as well. Waiting to see if any benzes have actually used them before. Trans build is $4650 but the valve body upgrade and torque converter are cheap! I plan on at least doing that much

New issue of Modified Luxury and Exotics has a 600 HP Jeep SRT8 with a modified torque converter by

http://www.gsmotorsports.com/Merchan...Category_Code=

Looking at IPT's site it appears the Jeep SRT8 runs the 722.6 trans so gs motorsports may be another option.

I'm dropping the trans pan in a few weeks to take a look inside and see if theres any excessive wear. If there is then I am doing the full build. If there isn't, then I will at least do the valve body modfication and maybe the torque converter as well. Will let you guys know how it goes.

Does anyone know if the TCU is responsible for the reduction of engine power before the shift and the subsequent re-application of engine power shortly afterwards? Is it the ECU? It is very annoying whichever control unit is responsible. Has to be worth 2-3 tenths once you get rid of it.

Not sure why the concern over the transmission? I've got 43k on my car, just had the fluid changed, dirty but no metal particles. I'd be more concerned on the 7 speed unit than ours. Don't the 65's and SLR's use the 5 speed unit, that's gotta mean somthing for this transmission's ability.

No longer stock '06 E55, A3 3.2 Quattro, LRD4 HSE, R107 280SL
Didn't vic offer the S/M1/M2 conversion?

Its on the AMG "special" options list for late E55's ... but only found out about it after I got my car. Its all software so retrofit should be easy enuf.

MKB and the german tuners should have a handle on this.
