Removed my resonator (Videos)

Got my resonator removed last night and installed 2, 2.75 inch straight pipes. I honestly did not expect to hear such a big difference. The car sounds much better in person then on videos.

I'm really happy with the sound, and I'm glad I did the resonator delete. I got what I wanted.

Great sound - I'm gonna do this to my black series soon. Your's has that raw raspy crackly like the black series when you lift off the throttle - can't wait to hear what mine sounds like when i finally do it.

ATKM,
Glad you finally pulled the trigger. Did you install straight pipes like we were talking about? Sounds 100% better doesn't it. I drive with the window open as much as I can so I can hear her rev up. Congrats bro. Next- Renntech mufflers.

Just went to the shop and pulled the damn resonator off and put in 2 straight-pipes. Sounds absolutely amazing, I'm really glad I did it. I honestly did not expect such a big difference. I actually tinted my windows a day before I did the exhaust and was not supposed to open them for 3 days, but I couldn't resist. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
Exhaust - NEXT

That sounds incredible! Since you went with the straight pipes are you noticing any drone in the RPM's?

The stock pipes are 2.75 inches, I wanted to keep the diameter the same.

Lexaltezza, there is a bit of a drone. I think thats why people go with an X-Pipe. I really like the raw sound though, so I sraight-piped it.

Lexal,
It does drone a little. But man when you punch the accelerator, it sounds so dam aggressive. I've had people do dbl takes, stare and comment on how aggressive it sounds. Very happy it was done.

ATKM,
What kind of tint paper did you have install? What percentage tint?

Very cool ATKM5, Not a fan of the X-pipe whine at all. I did straight pipe's a while back and for me it seemed to have less drone which was a pleasant surprise to me. I like how it still sounds tame at an idle and cruising speed, but when I hop on it? AXE MURDERER DEATH RATTLE FTW !!!

Thanks! I had the resonator and secondary cats removed on my E55 and I made a mistake by installing the X-Pipe. Never liked the whine. Thats why I decided to straight pipe this one.

After hearing these clips I think I also would prefer the raw sound from straight pipes. As far as the drone, is it only during a certain RPM range and is it noticeable on the highway? I've been in vehicles where the drone is overwhelming at times and you can actually "feel" it, which is not what I'm looking for.

After hearing these clips I can see why. I can't get enough of these videos....I'm hoping to get something similiar done soon here. Renntech now has a Sound/Performance pipe available on their new website. It is supposed to yield 10hp and 15 lb-ft along with a more agressive note. So many exhaust options....

The best way I can decribe it is "the whine" is a F1 McLaren Mercedes sound which is a smoother higher pitch note opposed to the deeper rattle of straight pipe's, It is a matter of taste.

I've heard of the Renntech Sound?performance pipe, and from what I understand it is very similar to my straight pipe, but it costs a lot more then a simple Muffler shop job. I do feel like my car has a bit more power, it revs easier and the response seems to be a bit better. So all in all, my advice would be to just install two 2.75 inch pipes, its a lot cheaper and does the job. Either way your car will sound great and will have crispier performance.

Regarding the drone at highway speeds. I drove quite a bit with windows up and down now, and I honestly can't hear much drone. It only gets loud when I start pushing it.

Good luck!
