I see a lot of cars adding mods and wondering why they ran slower or can not beat the car with less mods at sea level. Of course a time slip is a time slip but comparing Altitude density can ease the pain and concern. A person dialed in on their car, should know almost exactly what they will run on any given weather day.. You need an AD calculator and weather tool to know this info but it can be a great track tool.

Below is a pretty good education on track/car/racing altitude density.. running at the right AD can make .3-.5 difference at times.

Here is one of many online calcualtors. You need to know the location of the run above sea level to start. Air temp, barometric pressure and humitity are your main parameters. You can use on online weather site or buy a hand held meter for exact up to the minute calcualtions.

Your track times can vary by .10-.15 easilly or more with temp, baro and hum. changes while racing. It is nice to rule out the car or driver error. The nice thing about GREAT altitude density,,, it is FREE horse power if you know how to use it..

Many ways to keep track of this. One way it to buy a meter that does most all this for you , live on the scene. The other is to tap into an online weather stations for the time you are running. You literally can add 40 HP to your car on a cool, dry, high baro day verses a hot, humid, low baro day. Free HP power and that is hard to come by on cars that headers cost $$$4000.00

This is about the only accurate way to calculate your DA, using those online sites actually do you a disservice by providing weather readings from the closest airport or weather station which can give you inaccurate reading based on the actual track temp and altitude.

Many times in the Fall and Spring... MIR and Englishtown DA's run -500ft (yup, below sea level) and even more sometimes. Our cars run like they are demon possessed in those conditions.

If so, then why not push for a drag racing section on this site? Top 25-50 list of each AMG car`s 1/4 mile times? Everyone can list mods, AD and all other pertant info to draw more performance vendors to the AMG group. Racers would be happy,Vendors would sell more and thus create a strong demand and attention to AMG performance? Why not?

Then I would not have to drive all the way to MIR for -500AD, when we see -1500 to-2000 AD here at HRP/Houston All the other performance forums have sections , list and friendly compettion like this. More performance vendors would sign up on the site, sell more prodcut, create more mods and we would all go faster for less! Win=Win for everyone.

Shipping from VRP in LA to Utah was 1120$, this would be 2-3K each way easy with current gas prices.

Just not sure if I will be able to make it.

 

Look for a post from juicee63 for that list of 1/4mile times. Many of us post our calculated da with our timeslips as well. Several board sponsors have also organized track events so aftermarket involvement is there.

Houston does have a great track capable of fantastic times but mir can also reach -2000' da and will likely offer the best opportunity to set some amg records.

 

Ok , you guys busted me ont he AD line. Density altitude is correct. I stand corrected and will be more carefull now that the Police are around. . I guess I had an AD moment and it was before I had my capaccino, Red bull,. Full throttle and Rock star shot for the day.

I posted this rudimentary topic, as I have been doing my newbee due diligence and reading post after post to get up to speed ( I mean speed literally). From all that reading, I see a lot of people not using DA, understanding DA and then wondering why their mods are not making them run Quicker/faster.

No offense to the long term AMG pioneers and may this help everyone else.

How about that 1/4 mile list/forum for AMG`s??? All model AMG`s. I assume most forum members would like some friendly competiton between tracks,vendors, mods all over the country. Good for growth ..

I searched Juicee63 and really did not see much. What about C55, C63`s and all the other AMG models.

I appreciate all the help to find the searches but I would assume Paying Vendor/sponsors on this site would not like us to have to go to other sites to find performance info on AMG cars? How can you market mods and performance if you have to search all over? I could be wrong but the business side of me says, not good.. These list are kind of all hidden and all over the place.. Why not have a section for all the AMG models and keep a sticky list up on the section.

Reading Juicee63 1/4 mile post, it seemed people really liked the competition and being able to lead an AMG class. Now that AMG has started to mass produce super power (since 2003) , racing is here to stay.. Why let BMW and all those smelly fiberglass corvettes get all the mods and tuner support.. I would like to see AMG power marketed and displayed!

The MIR track event sounds great but that also seems like once a year.. People are running AMG`s every day at some track.. Why not market it and show vendors that we have the people to support their R&D.. I am surprised that there is very little being done with converters and tranny tuning.. So much ET being left on the table , while BMW and others get tons of support.

I apologize if I missed something or am out of line but just the way it reads to a new member.

Just kidding. You are correct on many points. It's the very performance frustration that you are describing that was the impetus for several new companies...VRP, LET, Code3, TVT, etc....

There is still quite a bit left on the table for these cars, IMO.

Side note: Would you be interested in a private rental in Houston? I'm not afraid to drive.

Ok, nice top 27 list but still hard to find, update and have a chest beating contest. I see only 3-4 AMG models out of the 20 or so listed on the site.. A big S class leads all the E55`s for top spot? Wow! The E55 forum is the place to be on this site but an S leads? More veiwers than the whole AMG forum combined on the E section.

Who is the fastest C class, E63, Cl55, CL63, R63,G55 etc, etc. What do they run with X vendor mods, bolt ons only and NOS catagories? What do they run stock and at what DA? Yes, we can all search motor trend and such but what do every day members at X track run with all the models? I bet you could have hundreds of people fighting for 1st place in each catagory.. If I was a tuner, I would be all for getting this info Sticky posted in each AMG class or all Benz class and market the mods!

From all the replies, I get the feeling status quo is fine.
