5.5 V8 with turbos for new CLS and E
Hi guys
I just got Automobile mag. There was an article about new CLS
MB will have three engines for CLS
1. CLS350 306hp in 2012
2. CLS550 5.5 V8, 388hp and 5.5 V8 twin turbo 435 hp in 2012
3. CLS55 5.5 V8 twin turbo 570 hp in 2012
I think new E class will get same engines.
So 55 is coming back with twin turbo.
I am not sure about the look of new cls and e class, but the engine sure sound
great!

I agree with the hp numbers, but the big boss just reiterated it again this week.
They'll be up and spinning by early 10, late 10 at the latest.
Benz needs them inline super fast to conform to super greeners overseas.

HOWEVER I did have a thought. Would almost guarantee that AMG will keep the tranny lower torque limit to keep us modders at bay.
It'll all be on you Vadim!! You'll have to save us with tranny mods.

AMG will be getting 5.5 V8 with 570hp. That is what the article is saying.
It did not mention 6.3 V8 TT. I thought that they might use 6.3 TT. I am sure they spent a lot of money in R&D on 6.3 engine and it seems waste of money to dump 6.3 engines from their lineup.

They won't dump that 6.3 engine as yet. They'll need it later for 6.3TT as an upgrade from 5.5TT

With the old 55, it was the standard 500 engine tinkered with, which was readily available, was in great supply and was cost affective, as it sold as both the 500 & 55 & 55k variants

I totally agree with you....AMG, starting with the 63 engine is going to be totally an AMG vehicle and not AMG and Merc combined. The 55 engine is an old design, 3 valves, etc, etc, the 63 engine on the other hand is a totally new and clean design. My guess is that they will de-stroke the 63. It also would not surprise me that AMG will fly their own banner, with Merc just being an outlet for them. Merc has stated that by 2015, they will be all green, meaning electric, hybrid, and fuel cell....where does that leave AMG. I doubt the AMG will have a performance electric vehicle. Who knows...this was just some outside the box thinking!

So it looks like new E63 or maybe E55 will have turbocharger for sure.
Is it going to be similar to E55(supercharged) with tons of torque?
