Odd shift points in M mode

In manual mode, shifting from 2nd into 3rd it only shifts when above 2250rpm, shifting from 1-2 / 3-4 / 4-5 are normal around 1900-2000rpm.

Is this normal

as for the question at hand- never really used the M mode but when I did the shifts were normal thru each gear. Mash and go is the best in a Benz anyways IMO.

I just like the feel of the shifts through everyday driving, S mode feels sloppy and uninvolving. That said if I am racing I do put her in S mode. M mode is suppose to shift what is it, 25% faster as well.....it feels snappier especially when shifting near redline.

Get a tune and the S mode will be fine. I use C now. M isn't any quicker in shifting. I use it for "feel" and play. Like you said, not to race. Mine shifts at exactly 2000 for each gear and I can even make the SC NOT kick in until 2100, so i can go all the way to 4th without the SC and then it snaps on!!!

Both amazing machines but I am happy with the decision I made

I do miss that M6 steering/brake feel though...spongy brake feel ftl.

Yeah I think something is wrong with the way mine shifts from 2-3...

How do you keep the SC from engaging until 2100? Mine engages around 1250 and I thought it is hard coded to engage at that rpm.

I accelerate VERY slowly. The lock may release at 1250 or whatever, but I can keep the centrifugal force low by slowly accelerating and shifting as fast as possible. Keep the revs down and just climb steady. it is fun!!

I swear the manual does say something about M mode being the fastest to shift...Something like S mode is 25% faster than C mode and M mode is 50% faster than C mode. Hate to actually dig it out...but I do remember reading something like that.

Can you find it? They have the manual online. I'll check, too but just don't think I was ever better in manual. S is the fastest for me, I think?

I think the car is telling you are driving like a little old lady (not from Pasadena).

If your shifting at those RPMs put it in C

At WOT I get a noticeable chirp and slight jerk when I upshift @ redline in M mode, if I put it in S it is much less theatric. It does seems faster to me....

Uhh you can accelerate pretty quick by keeping the throttle wide open and shifting early with all the tq and power available at these revs. I don't drive like an old lady, trust me

I just like the feel of rolling through the gears through traffic lights and not having to wind the engine up. Everytime I drive like this the rest of traffic is well behind me by the time I reach 60-70...

I agree that the manual mode "seems" faster, but I thought the same thing when I was killing an M5 and he was barking in all the gears. If it does it, MB would definitely publish it. If it doesn't, I think it can be tuned. i was hoping tranny (shift points, etc.) to be my next set of tunes.

I agree. I dont see where manual mode would be faster- The great "AMG speedshift" is in auto mode.

In Alex's case he just likes M mode for the driver involvement and was asking about the shift dynamics or lack of them that he was experiencing.

ok, so just for Alex I went out and used manual mode. Here is exactly what my car does:

1-2 can come at 1400rpm
2-3 can come at 1650rpm
3-4 can come at 1900rpm
4-5 can come at 1700rpm

Also, I noticed the SC was ALWAYS engaged. No kickin between 1200 and 2k in even the slowest of accelerations.

Thanks jangster, I'm getting the 07 clutch pack installed now but forgot to complain about the shift points

Did powerchip/vadim change your shift points? Your shift points are all way under mine.
