Lumpy idle w/ Cams
So I have had the VRP cams installed for about 5 months now. My idle is 580 rpms. The car stalls 1-2x/day. I went to MBenz to have then reset the idel to 800 rpms. I get the car back...nothing seems changed although they tell me it is.
Now the car idles from 590 to 1600 rpms...its "oscillating wildly"...as the Smiths would put it. When I come to a stop light I almost always have to put it in Nuetral so it doesn't stall which has happened repeatdly. The driveability and Benz feel has taken a hit. What could be the issue other than the obvious fact that this is what happens when you install cams. Air flow metering issue? thanks.

+1. There are idle adjustments for car in park and drive. Gotta adjust both.
Never have had her stall on me once when all hoses were plugged in etc.
If they adjusted both settings and it is still acting crazy, then it's a hose issue.
I had that same stalling when a certain hose was not connected to the TB. Forgot which one, but it looks just like it is connected, but when you pull on it, it was not. Once that was connected, no more super surges and no stalling.
Worth a check. Shouldn't lump that bad.

Out Of Control!!
Mine never stalls and I retained stock settings. When it oscillates its less than 100rpm. It does take away from the benz smooth idle but thats the tradeoff. It isn't horrible

Ahmad since your car has a mass air it makes the cams less noticeable at idle. The e55 is map based so either the idle needs to be raised or the map adjusted for a better idle.

Isaac,
It's definitely vacuum related. I've personally touched, driven, and played with 3 cars that have our cams in it.. None of them have ever stalled. The worst it has gotten is that the idle will fluctuate 100RPM or so when you come to a stop.. it does that for a couple of secs and then settles down.
I just finished using STAR to adjust idle both in Park and in gear on one of the cars. The max you can raise it is approx 150RPM and that is enough to make the idle smooth.
I've tried cranking the air conditioning and everything else and nothing has caused any surges or idle fluctuations.
Check the vacuum line on the S/C inlet. Check the PCV hoses running to the valve covers and airbox. Check the PCV hose going to the bottom of the TB.
The easiest thing to do is a smoke test. That will show you all the vacuum leaks on your motor.

Usually on an e55 a vacuum leak should trigger a check engine light. I forgot the code, I think it was tps sensor out of range or something like that. Before I raised the idle my car would stall if I did not let the car warm up a few minutes before taking off. Once the idle was raised it was no longer a problem.

wish I could remember the hose on mine but I swear it did the exact same thing you are describing. Radical idle then stall. It was cool til it would stall. It was a hose that connects to the tb I think. Once my guy found it, totally different car.
