2007 E 63 AMG Mercedes Benz
BMW 760LI

On the way home yesterday I saw one heading out to Palm Springs. I have heard of these, but never saw one. So I had to see what it would do. I was impressed. In my short history with my E63, I have not seen a car that can run with it - short light to light runs, or highspeed freeway runs. This one is close - got up to about 125-130 and I pussed out - we were passing a rest stop where the CHP is always parked looking for guys like us. I was pulling on him, but not real quick.

Big A$$ V12 with 425 hp or close to it- not that great of a car performance wise. I would think you would have pulled him.

The B7 is slow too (relatively speaking)-- driven one for a day. It does get moving ... once it gets moving, if you catch my drift

I think the B7 and the 760 are in the same league, one being a centrifugal supercharged 745i engine and the other being a big v12.

Any mag racers got numbers for us??

You may also want to consider the possibility that the car could be slightly modded. If not, then you definitely should've pulled him much easier.

highway races are tricky....

you let a car wind up first and take the lead.. its going to take time to pass ..

if you both started at the same speed and lined up evenly.. then you would see a different picture.

E55 or CL600, if I could make up my mind
E63 is lighter, more power, more torque. All other things equal, the 760 doesn't stand a chance.

I got to drive a coworker's 760li, and I wasn't impressed. Hate the styling inside and out, and 400ish hp doesn't cut it for an "ultimate driving machine" of that size.

I can't for the life of me understand why somebody would buy a 760 over a S600, and that comes from a life long BMW fan (well, until Bangle showed up).

Not sure if you are being facetious or not...but I will play...

Car & Driver tested both (not at the same time) with the following results:

Alpina B7:
0-60 4.4
0-100: 10.1
0-150: 24.4
1/4 mile: 12.8 @ 114mph

760Li
0-60: 5.1
0-100: 12.3?
1/4 mile: 13.6 @ 106mph

The 760 was tested with an 03 S600 which ran 0-60 in 4.3 and 0-100 in 9.7 and a 1/4 mile in 12.5 @ 115mph.

I would definitely get the E63 checked....

Tom

I tend to belive these numbers. I drove the 760 and light to light raced a B7. The B7 will put up more of a fight but still get stomped.

Don't misunderstand - i was pulling him - but keep in mind, this was not a dragstrip or a deserted highway - lots of factors, traffic, etc. All I said, was that it was closer than other cars I've seen. GEEEZ

My e63 is just fine!!

I said what I said out of concern...not to put you or your car down. Quite frankly you did say that it was "close"....and...it shouldn't have been.

You mentioned that other cars have not given you trouble from stop light to stoplight and highspeed freeway runs. Can you name a few of those other cars?

Does close mean car lenght, fender? To me close is car lenght and if it hold same for you then wow anything can happen on the highways.
