I don't know about the dealer. However, that price is pretty average for the year and mileage.

Ya, but KBB and the rest only update once or twice a year. In the past couple months, the car market has absolutely gone down the toilet. I suspect the valuation books haven't updated to reflect the realities of the current economy yet.

But a near $13K price cut seems a little steep. Take it for what it's worth but I'd do your homework with that one

There are 109 2005 E55s for sale on Autotrader that have under 60k miles. Out of those, there are only FOUR cars that are for sale under $35k (and one of them is $34,995). I think it would be hard to conclude that the price is "average". It seems there are a lot of prices in the high 30s, though. The questions are:

a.) what shape is this car "really" in
b.) are they willing to negotiate further (I'm sure that some of the dealers in the upper 30s are, so it may bring their cars into this same price point, if this dealer won't budge).
c.) is it missing any key options you'd like

Seems to cheap for me. I'd check accident history. Probably has been hit pretty hard and rebuilt or something.

I just saw one here today in a small used car dealer black on black 2005 E55 with 43k miles. Looked in great condition. They are asking 38k. But think they could be talked down to 34-35 easy.

Just checked Galves. 05 E55 w/ Nav wholesales for about $30,900. Mileage of 48k is kind of high so there's a price reduction of $4825 reflected in the $30,900. Based on this $33,800 doesn't seem bad. W/O Nav subtract $800.

Hope this helps

The best time to buy these kind of cars.

Even 2006 M5s are now in the mid $40K:

Could have been. Are they on Columbia Pike in Arlington? I was coming out of a quick BK lunch and saw it in parking lot. Stopped in to inquire.

This is depressing Not trying to be selfish but I hope the ones that are priced very low are barebones, have some bad history (e.g. accident) and out of warranty on top of high mileage.

I'm thinking to unload my car some time next year.... it's and '05, 23.5K, loaded, designo and has extended warranty till 2012. I hope I could still fetch more than $40K next year (finger crossed ).

Lightbulb That's why leasing makes sense!!!

Leasing is like renting if you look at it that way. In the purchase of a house where you are buying it (IN THE PAST BEFORE THE MORTGAGE CRISIS) it made sense to buy with "APPRECIATION! in leasing a car you amortize depreciation over the lease and walk away at the end (provided the car is in good condition and at agreed to mileage).

Everyone is being killed in todays market by this depreciation! Some manufacturers are getting out of leasing because they are being burdened by the actual depreciation versus the agreed residual value.

It will be interesting what the next few years are going to do to prices, depreciation, and residual values.

Maybe only the extreme wealthy will be able to lease in the future???

2010 E550.. Gone but never forgotton - E63 AMG..
I dont know where you guys are getting some of these prices ! I was at Mercedes Benz Sovereign in Brooklyn N.Y and they have a 2005 Black E55 on the show room floor. It's a lease return. Currently has 18,000 miles and is being sold for 50,000$.. My friend was interested and they would not budge. Not even 500 bucks, they would not go lower. The salesman was such a tool.

" Do you have any idea what a blast this car is to drive ?? " lol

I have my eye on a few '05 E55's at Atlanta area dealerships that are outrageously priced given their mileage. Suffice it to say that those cars have been sitting for quite some time.

Tell me about it. My car at auction would fetch over 40k (based on the report in this thread), but I still can't get anyone to bite at $46k and I have a full MBUSA warranty for another 3 years, a $1,500 radar/laser detector and diffuser, and a quick specimen. Just gives me a reason to keep it longer.

I have a stellar-condition 04 e55 with around 43k miles for the mid 30s. Price is VERY VERY good based on the maintenance records for the vehicle and its absolutely spotless...PM if interested. Wouldnt you rather purchase from a forum member?
