Insurance rates? Got a surprise today

Curious what everyone is paying for E55 insurance...my carrier (Progressive) just increased my premiums by $230/mo for the E55. That is almost twice what my Porsche 930 premium is, and more than twice the my E500's rate. The E500 I can understand, but the Turbo is classed as an exotic and (I would assume) has a similar replacement cost and risk.

No tickets (wife has 2, both speeding ), and we have 4 cars insured, no claims in the last 7 years.... So Cal area, only 12K annual mileage on the E55...seems like time to start looking for quotes from other carriers!

I'm with USAA also. I believe it's about $1600/year for the E55. I had to go down to basic coverage and a $1k liability though because I have an at fault accident on my record still (loss of control).

For the OP, you need to get rid of that 12k annual mileage!! They're burning you for that much driving.

I was quoted (and paid the first month, in August) at $1,400 annually when we added the E55 to our current policy with Progressive. This month the annualized rate was raised to $2,800 with no explanation, and no other changes to the policy.

Good info, thanks everyone. FWIW, the E55 and Turbo are the only cars with a low mileage limit, but still....!

I'm with USAA & pay $1,382/yr for my E55 & F350. If I were to back out the multi-car discount & go on the E55 only, my theoretical rate is about $932/yr.

No tickets or at-fault accidents in 16 yrs, which I'm sure helps.

See if you can get in State Farm's "mutual" program.............tickets will have no bearing on your premiums provided your record is clean to start. They may need some supporting business.....home, life, etc.

More tickets than I car to remember and never an increase in 20 years.

$960/year with State Farm. Max coverage, $1k deductible (I think that is the largest deductible that they would allow).

To be honest, I really don’t care about this thread, I’m just trying to reach a post count of 300 before my four year anniversary on this site.

Just under $1,000 per year with State Farm-full coverage, full glass, and a $500 deductible. It is a limited use policy for under 7,500 miles per year.

$2700 for the Beast (no tickets/accidents, $2M TPL, $1000 ded)
$1925 for the bike (no tickets/accidents, $1M TPL, $500 ded)
$2100 for the Subaru Forester (no tickets/accidents, $2M TPL, $1000 ded)

You guys have it good down there! I'm in the insurance biz and this is the best we've got. Well, not the best, but my insurer doesn't know about my traffic violations. I haven't tried to move it (and I know I could get less, but not much) cuz they'd pull a drivers abstract and they wouldn't touch it. Better to let sleeping dogs lie!

wow, you guys are getting jacked

I pay less than 800 yr for full coverage, 100 ded on my E55 through Nationwide. I do have the house coverage linked along with two other cars. I have no claims (other than glass which is free and non-chargable) and no tickets in the past 6-8 years.

There are a ton of other variables that most people don't know about that comes into play when getting a quote for insurance. My ex works for GEICO and she let me in on a few of the things:

-Annual mileage is the big one, the more mileage you tell them, the higher your rate goes, so if your ins company doesn't check up on you, best to lower that sucker to 3k miles a year or so.

-Occupation also plays a part. Teachers and Engineers have lower insurance rates than other occupations; I guess ins companies see them as more potentially responsible drivers.

-Group affiliation. Many ins companies have discounts if you do business with their partners. GEICO for example, will discount your quote if you are a member of Navy Federal Credit Union, though they won't ask you if you are, you'll have to tell them.

-Education counts also, and this is somewhat along the lines of occupation. A driver who has a bachelors degree will get a lower quote than a driver who does not.

All these "tricks" will work at GEICO, and I would imagine most of them will work elsewhere as well. I can guarantee the annual mileage lowering works with USAA, plus since they don't check up on mileage it's easier to get away with.

Several other factors

How recent are her tickets?..She could have gone to Traffic school to delete one of the tickets off of her record

With Four cars try and quote it Two in her name and Two in Yours..IF she has the Tickets..Rate the two highest cars on you since you have a clean record..

rate them at 10K a year or less since you have extra cars..
as Insurance Companies look at them as Unknown Exposure..and charge more for it!

One ticket was 'cleaned' at traffic school, the other should be the only one still showing. I had forgotten that we did have a $4K claim five years ago - daughter's stolen car. But she's now 23 and has been off our policy for the last four years.

In CA all drivers in the household must be listed as drivers, so no splitting coverage/cars (at least according to my agent).

Been too busy with the events of the last few days to get quotes on other carriers, but it will be a high priority in the next week! May be inquiring about some of the companies/leads mentioned here.

Re splitting the cars..You can rate the wife and yourself on two and rate yourself on the other two and Exclude the wife on your two

As The wife with the ticket will have a higher rate

The Claim re the loss should be gone...
Its on the clue report

Make sure that you get quotes for the Same coverage..
100/300/50 min limits. Higher if you have greater assets
