E55 sold, CL65 deal fell through, GTR in the garage...

The deal I had set for the 2005 CL65 to replace my E55 fell though. The dealer gave me the car for a 1/2 day to drive. I had it inspected and found that one panel had been repainted, and one wheel was bent.

I let the painted panel go, it was done very well, but I insisted that the wheel be replaced, as this is a CPO car, and they should have known about it. They offered to repair the wheel at their cost if possible. I said to have it repaired and I would check it out to decide if it was ok. They called back the next day and said two other wheels were bent as well, although not that bad. They offered to split the cost of repairing the 3 wheels with me. I couldn't believe it, how could this dealer be that heavy in this CL65, that they would not do the work that should have been done prior to CPO'ing this car.

I was paying a premium for this 2005 CL65 with 15k miles because it was a CPO car with 2.5 years left on the warranty. Our negotiated price before the wheel issue was $69k. So I said no thanks and picked up a new Nissan GTR instead.

Quite a bit more money, but what a car, it's a blast to drive, pulling 1G turns and launches, and the technology/interface is very well done. Blasting off the line with launch control in this car has seriously stunned a few of my friends. Edmunds tested this car doing 0-60 in 3.3 seconds using launch control. (videos coming soon!)

So it's no AMG for me for a while, I'll be back when the new E AMG goes with the V8 twin turbo....

some pics!

Brooks, I can't believe the deal for the CL65 fell through. I know you wanted one for a while. Did you not want to continue the search or were you just sick of looking and said F-it? Don't get me wrong the GTR is beautiful and I would also love to have one but the CL65 is classy, comfortable, and with a tune just as fast as the GTR. Any regrets after driving the car for a while? Hope you are enjoying it. Let's get together and do a few rolls. I would love to see how my 65 hangs with a new GTR.

Looks like the same GTR a guy at my gym just picked up. Nice color scheme.

Be careful with those launches, too many will void warranties.

The CL65 is incredible, but after reflecting back on the day of driving it, I kind of felt like it wasn't for me, but I since I've always "wanted" one, I kept pushing myself to get it.

So after the deal fell though I kind of felt like it was for a reason. I've been thinking about the GTR but didn't think I would be willing to pay over MSRP for the car. I watched a few videos of these things running, saw the "gran turismo" interface, got impulsive and exactly, said F-it, and bought the first red one I could find close by.

I noticed the hood as well, but didn't feel like taking more shots today, the hood has latches on both sides, and one of em didn't latch when I closed it....

Let's run the CL65 vs GTR out here on US27..... PM me when you're free.....

I just got back from GTEC'ing the car. On my first try, it ran 0-60 in 3.32 seconds and 11.53 @ 121.13 MPH, so I didn't even do another run. My normal times on the same road with the E55 was 0-60 in 4.1, 12.12 @ 119-120. So on the highway it should be close, but off the line it wouldn't be too fair....

Agrrhhh! You beat me to it. I was going to get a GTR before I bought my E55 but couldn't get a dealership to sell it to me for sticker. So I go out to North Carolina and pick up my E55. Driving home I'm in Atlanta GA filling up gas and I get a phone call.... guess who, Nissan! They said they have sold 6 GTR's for the 15 over sticker and they have one more that the manager said just to get rid of so they were selling it at sticker. They had my name on the list so they gave me first dibs. I decided to keep the E until the V-Spec comes out this next summer

Awesome car by the way!

Nice car! I have seen them at the track and they do pretty well. Is it true if you use launch control it will void the warranty? I have been told this is true by a few different GTR owners.

Congrats, awesome choice.

The MB dealer sucked and lost out on a buyer! Your GTR is a suitable substitute by any means.
