Should this be considered in the same class as the ZR1?

it would of been better if dodge used a different car , maybe the new challenger with a v8 that can hang with the zr1 and gt-r..

I believe I read that the ACR (which anyone can order) ring venture was privately funded, not sponsored by dodge as was the zr1 program via chevy, which makes it an even more impressive feat. At least IMO.Originally Posted by Hammer Down

So, is this a normal production car or does it have to be special ordered?

You have to order it with the ACR package (which you can do from any dodge dealer). It raises the price over $100k and there is no HP increase but the cars handle pretty well. Originally Posted by MB_Forever

Nice time, but there were multiple driver errors mostly in shifting that for sure would have cut the lap time by a few seconds - specifically the mis-shift at 5mins 30secs and again at 1min 9sec....Not to mention he was bouncing off the rev limiter nonstop..funny seeing that gearshifter move around when the limiter kicked in...he did drive the pants off that thing though, not sure how many laps that car would stay together being driven like that...

That's awesome!
I'm pretty sure, though that the ZR-1 ran Michelin PS2s and the story claims the ACR is running Michelin Pilot Sport Cups.
The ZR-1 may need to add a PSC tire option and take another run.

Driving a Viper perfectly is akin to threading a needle moving at Mach 3 with a piece of spaghetti while wearing spacesuit gloves.Originally Posted by LZH

Can't argue with that. The only one I ever drove was a handful at anything above 8/10ths.Originally Posted by Cylinder Head

the ACR is the real deal.
the Viper Club of America helped fund the cars and the engineers being sent over there. They had a total of 5 hours to do all the work. The driver had never driven the car before, but had lots of 'ring experience. The cars were sent over via open container on a boat - it was a very low budget operation - but they were careful to include the media to have it witnessed independently - something the other folks (ZR1 and GTR did not do)
They had bested the ZR1 time on the second flying lap. I believe that they only did about 5 laps.
The Pilot Sport Cups are r compounds - but not as sticky as a Hoosier R6 / A6 or even a Kuhmo.
the ACR spent a ton of time in the wind tunnel - mostly in the wee hours of the morning - because that's when they can run the high speed tests (power cmomany limits them) and because that's the only time they could get. There's footage of the car in the tunnel at 2 AM. They took EVERY open slot they could. 1000 pounds of downforce, ajdustable shocks and a few other tidbits make this car handle like crazy.
This car was made for the weekend time trial / DE enthusiast. The Dodge engineers know that the fun stuff starts in the twisty bits - and the ACR is built for the road course.
It's the real deal.
Mine's on order.

There was also a spot in the article where they made a run and thought they could get more out of the car so the engineers made adjustments to the shocks to make it handle better. The ZR1 to my knowledge just ran with what it came with although their magnetic setup is pretty damn good. It will be hard for the ZR1 to pick up over 4 seconds on the ring unless they develope a C6R ZR1
if they do that GAME OVER!

Correct, the ZR1 records was set with all suspensions and cambers settings set to OEM stock specs, the way the car leaves the factory. The only thing they played with on the ZR1 was tire pressures.Originally Posted by Hammer Down

Crazy! WOW! This is the kind of car that one day will make records and kill you on the next day...

Hell a regular Viper can do that especially in the hands of an inexperienced driver!Originally Posted by kip
