Work order / Service History / Carfax

I have located a fully loaded '05 Wagon with 25K miles sans distronic and parktronic options. Do I just go into any Mercedes Benz dealer armed with the VIN number and they can print out the service history for all dealer work? I'm not 'feeling it' with the seller since the car is sitting in an auto body garage bay next to a bunch of other 'works in process'. Owner claims the car was sourced direct through his relationship with a Mercedes Benz dealer as opposed to an auction. Will the dealer records show information regarding initial lease and return inspection information?

I'm concerned because there is no maintenance history for the two years the vehicle was driven. Why is the #3 seller/dealer not listed on the report?

Hoping to get suggestions from those members experienced in looking at carfax reports.

Wish 4, You probably have already...

made a coonection by now. I assume the poster below must work for an MB store, and that's about the only way you're going to find anything. MB dealers are now quite proprietary about letting you have any info (privacy). It will take an inside guy to get the info you're looking for. You probably have it by now. And BTW, unless it's had a few warranty issues, there probably isn't a lot of service history at 25k. Probably just one service, maybe due for another or just had it. Also, let me know what you think of my ebay listing on my wagon. It's just been up about an hour. Good luck in your continued search...

Oh, and to answer your Carfax question...

frequently the current seller (like me, and the guy you're talking about) is not listed because title may not have passed. In our state, dealers are not required to do anything with titles until they are sold, so there' s no new information for Carfax to get. As you saw on mine, it shows the sale from the FL dealer to me, but stops there. Hope this helps. BTW, what does this guy want for his car?

No connection yet. I see two detailed dealer records on carfax within one month of each other. Not sure why I don't see the listing for the seller. Anyway, I hear Carfax is 'not all that'. Only problem is it is Obsidian Black

I'm still going at my turtle pace. I don't see your ebay listing. I only see a 63 listed. I'll check back perhaps it has not been posted for public view???

oops, posted my response before your last one. Carfax doesn't show the last sale to him. $41K.

I see it now. Looks nice. At my mileage rate, it will take me 5 years to reach 25K miles. Such as shame to NOT drive a drivers car. It will look good in my driveway. What a way to throw down 40K and watch it depreciate away

I have found that ....

staying out of it can be a problem. I spent about 3 more hours on it today, and then was so anxious to drive it that we drove almost 40 miles one way to dinner. For appetizers. It was a desolate stretch of country road on a clear nite, with jazz programming on public radio, so we had to do it.
BTW, if anyone asks or hints to you, my reserve is well below that number. And I have to agree, obsidian is not just a problem, but a killer for me.
Stay in touch....

Re, the other car at a body shop....

Be really careful. There are LOTS of cars sold bent that do not show up on Carfax for many months, if at all. Painting a panel is not a big deal--you can't throw a nice car away for that. But and entire side? Or the whole nose? But lots of guys specialize in taking cars that are bent and have no collision history, fixing them, and sliding them out.
Do you have a friend/acquaintance in the industry with a paint meter? Or does the body shop have one? That would be the first thing I'd do, and remember, the hoods and noses of these cars are plastic/composite, and usually won't show on the meter. Look under the hood for turned bolts or missing clips and wire ties...dead giveaways. Hope this helps.

Thanks. The fact that it is sitting in a body shop concerns me, but I'm way over cautious on everything I do - over research slow to buy. Makes you wonder, way a cherry 05 wagon with only 25K miles didn't stay on the MBZ dealer lot? Who knows. Anyway, Obsidian is a deal breaker for me - as is the the power hatch

I'm willing to deal with the extra maintenance required on the 040 black.

I know your reserve is lower and I will send anyone I come to your way.
