DIY I-Pod Install

This is the update to help overcome a difference in volume when you switch from CD to I-Pod or I-Pod to radio. It seems to be a in-line amp and will give louder play back and enhanced bass.
You can also check or change level by
#1. Turn on command.
#2. Select AUX/I-Pod.
#3. Press down arrow and Phone hang-up for 8 seconds.
#4. When VOL appears chose --- (down arrow) or +++(up arrow) Vol setting.
Here are the pics of install, simple Velcro 5 min job.

YM,
Did the amp come as part of your IPOD package? Can you tell me how much it cost? I'm gunna get that ordered Monday as the volume thing drives me nuts...
Great write up BTW.

I understand the later kits have this built in and mine could have been one cause when I installed it, it was over driving and had slight distortion.
When I reset the volume (arrow down & Hang up) to low the match was perfect and clear.
Thanks

No it was not in the kit, I found the number here in one of the threads and they said their cost was $0.11 well I only paid $0.04 for mine. That is the cheapest thing MB I have ever bought at the dealership.

E55 then E63, now back to an E55
That is a lot of work, although
ALL THAT just in place of a simple wire sticking out of the glove box ?
Doesn't make sense to me......

Awesome write up. I am truely impressed.
I was soo thinking about a DIY for the ipod but now, NO WAY IN HELL!!
1: It is way too much work.
2: Stripping the car is something i want to avoid at all costs.
You never know, how many new rattles you develop.

Holy crap, that is some useful info, I am very impressed.
I assume the 63 can't be that much different.
I think if I was going to open the car up like that, I would run a whole lot of extra wire for anything else I might ever want to setup.
I want to rewire my ipod thing, to get it to work w/ my iphone 3g.
I have some other ideas of malevolent things I want to do (cell phone jammer)
Other Jammers and sensors too, ****ing cops. What I really want to do is get into there GPS system and track those little ****ers.

Fabulous job. I have no intention of installing an iPod kit but I did learn a million other things that I could do with my E. It's been 5 years old, no point keeping it intact
I have seen great engineers struggle to fix a simple plumbing problem, there are very few with presence of mind that make them true DIY. You are one of them.

Yesterday afternoon I kept getting an error from the iPod adapter and every so often, the song menu will not show on the dash, but it will still play music. Has anyone else had this issue?

***** nice write up! I'd rather burn a cd and load up the cd changer my wife says that I'm to old school but hey I can put 17-20 songs on a CD and there is room for 6 of them @ 80min a cd, that gives me 8hrs of music. Do I really need anymore than that? I love my car but I don't think that I could spend 8hrs in it.

My electrical connector (AGW) is 4 gray wires not brown & brown/red
