Gutting Stock E55 Muffler
Hello,
I tried to research this on Google, talked to a nice guy on this site (psuball1) who has a similar set up, and on this mbworld I found a couple things, but looking for more feedback before I actually go through with this. I have heard a lot of good things, but also some people saying not to touch them. If I were to go through with this, I'd probably do a resonator delete also, but debating whether to go xpipe or straight pipe (I've read that it is kinda split 50/50 and that the only different is straight pipe will be louder?) How much does a stock resonator weigh, btw?
I would like to know some things:
Any negative repercussions, power wise?
Will I pass smog? (Should be fine cause I'm not touching the cats, right?)
How much will it usually cost me? Anyone know a good place in OC/Irvine area?
X-pipe or straight pipes?
If I ever wanted to, could I revert back to stock by buying new muffler packing?
Thanks!

ECBAOBAO: I have done several 55s where we opened up the mufflers and removed fiberglass packing.
It is kind of pain in rear end, as one has to pinch off small pieces of packing at a time to get all it out. You can reverse it, but not as well as factory packing.
The result is deeper, more growly sound. No resonance and no high pitch sounds.
As far as removing resonator, X-pipe is all the way.
We are in Costa Mesa.

If anyone wants to see my car and are local let me know. I can assure you that it is a lot better sounding in person than in my vid.
As Vadim said no drone or issues in the cabin at all.

bone stock E55 AMG
while i was repositioning the mufflers, i had the shop to remove the mufflers temporarily so i can see how the sound is like...
it definitely sounds "better" but it was bit too loud in the cabin for my taste...

I just talked to Vadim (nice guy! explained alot to me and answered all my questions) and he told me that if you removes the baffles from inside the muffler there will be tinging sounds. Can anyone post different?
Thanks!
