E55 2003 Airmatic shock absorbers source
Hello,
I have my 2003 E55 negotiated and last night the front passenger shock went bad with an alert "stop, car is to low"
I took the car early this morning to the mechanic and he told me that since it is an amg shock is very difficult to find it and it would cost above 1.5k.
If anybody can guide me in were can I get the shock and the aprox. price I will appreciatte.
Tito

Thanks everyone,
I do not have any warranty and that's the reason for changing it.
The next question would be if these are the same shocks used on the AMG?
I don't believe that the regular E class use the same shocks as the AMG E55, I hope to be wrong.
Thanks again,
Tito

Don't put non-AMG airmatic shocks on it. If you want cheap, parts.com is your friend or maybe even find a salvaged one. If you are keeping the car, upgrade to the '06 E55/CLS55 parts. I dunno if all parts places have them, though or how much. They are $1200 each at the dealer.

Jangy, what exactly is the part on the shock that is popping or failing? For $800-$1200, there has got to be a way to "repair" a shock, no?

Not really. These are basicaly air springs with standard shocks so it isn't like the seals are blowing. If you think about it, there is a bunch of local pressure to hold the weight of a car up. Any small leak will quickly turn into a tear and none of the parts are repairable or even available as separate parts. Thje rubber parts just get hard and break over time.
