Hey Vadim do you have something like that to remove the secondary cats? Since I already have my resonators removed and replaced with a straight through design.

 

You can get a 3'' U-bend and use pieces from it. Secondary cats have curved in and out.

Stupid question...but if you wanted to remove just the secondary cats and leave the resonator...All you need is just two straight pipes of 2.75" correct?

No, the cats have inlets at the angle, so you will need a 3'' U-bend.

SW is a bit longer.

Yes, e-bay one is not a true X-pipe. It uses stamped chamber that is too big.

I can make cats bypass pipes that will replace secondary cats (off-road use only).

They sell it AND any decent muffler shop can make one, BUT an x-pipe needs to be shaped properly aside from just fit. Since I have gotten mine on I have been playing with the angles (coming in and out) and size of the common openning so be careful if you have one made up or buy a generic one off of eBay.

I had my resonator removed and straight pipes put in last week.Sounds a bit more deeper in the exhaust note now so i am happy.My question is,what is the advantage of this x pipe setup over straight through pipes?

 

It simply adds scavenging, which becomes more and more important as you open things up.

 

Care to elaborate/share what anlges and common opeening netted the best gains? How are you testing these angles and openings?

 

I needed to get a leak fixed and found a race shop in San Diego that I am really starting to like.

They have an exhaust guy that I really like. He does meticulous work and loves to explain his craft. He was the one that fixed my leak and we started to talk about ways to get more out of the exhaust. He recommended against changing out the 2.75" piping for 3", which saved me a bit so i thought we would see what else he could do.

As far as X-pipes, in general, you are always trying to find the proper angle and mixing hole. You are basically going from the extremes of straight pipes all the way to an H pipe, depending on the entry and exit angles. In my case, we tried 3 setups including an H-Pipe just to get a feel. I liked the straightest angles possible. Why? I think it is because that setup has less resistanse and tends to add the best turbulence at higher velocities. I hope that means that I get the best scavenging at the top end. The car is already a beast down low, so i am not looking to tune the exhaust to help my 60'. I want more top end.
Hope that helps. I am getting full sets made from them (including headers) in the next few weeks, so I can give you better measurments soon.
