BMW had one since 2001. The iS models. 4.6iS was/is far superior in all areas to the ML55. Update to 4.8iS didn't change much. Now, I'll agree it's high time the CayenneTT and ML63 had a c.500bhp rival..

I do like the idea of a TTv8 X6M..
but why not just get the base v8TT and chip it..
A SAV is simply just that.. an SAV.. no need to get stiffer suspension on other M gadgets (M drive, M diff)
If you plan to carry family around.. the base TTv8 with a chip will be more than enough..
however.. if the same motor arrives on the M6 and M5.. then its a whole different ball game.
But I would not rule out getting a base 5 TTv8 with a sport package.. the same would apply for a base E550 (if and only the Twin turbos added)

To be honest, I want M to continue to stand alone with NA engines. The S54 and S85 are masterpieces. I agree with TG that just make a regular X5/X6 (X6 is an abomination) with the new BMW turbo V8 which iirc is 410bhp. Call it the iS, no need to drag the the M brand into the muddy waters of 5000lb+ SUVs.

Does anyone know the specs on this car? Does it use the same engine that the TTV8 the X6 already has?
I agree with wanting M cars to be NA engines, personally I love the current BMW lineup (especially when the 5 series gets the TTV8... anyone know when?), where they have twin turbo I6 and twin turbo V8's for their normal cars, and very high revving NA engines for their M cars. The M cars appear to have a lack of torque on paper, but personally, whenever I drive one, the high revving nature and acceleration make me never think once about any "lack of torque"

I don't know what is uglier to me, the X6 or CTS-V. Can't get beyond looks before getting excited on the engine. I did read today the 2010 7 series gets a TT and bumps output to 400hp and 465lbs tq, not bad.

A lot of people said you could chip a 996 turbo and get 996 X50 performance. However, the 996 X50 could also be chipped and tuned to a far higher level.
The M is also about the chassis and balance, which you can't replicate with a chip.

Don't judge an exhaust note based on a pre-production model.

well at least the turbos are easily accessible when they go ;p
seriously though, M is not for SUVs, 4.8isTT would have been better
not only did new X5 gain about 600lbs over previous model, but now gets M badge? pffft riiiiight an M.

The X6 is quite ugly. I saw this back a while ago, and most that saw it said PASS.
Performance wise, you I am sure it will go but the looks to me...no. JMO.

somethings better left unsaid ...
never liked the X6, don't know what they're for, plus too ugly even for a bimmer ... but this one would make more sense.

Little bitter that my Jeep will smoke your overpriced Porsche? lol

Who cares? I would rather have the Posrche. I don't spend my time racing my SUV when I drive it. However, when I am behind the wheel, I would rather be in the Porsche cabin than the Jeep. I would also rather pull up ANYWHERE in a Porsche than a JEEP.
The X6 M will smoke your Jeep, straightline, on the track, whatever, if you want to play that game.

Let's just hope MB/AMG brings out the DI 5.5/4v with twins. God help us if they TT the 6.2 like they were supposed to before all the BS hit.
