PHX friday night drags?

I just picked up a 2003 E55 with a couple of Renntech mods. I think its the stage one with the pulley and ECU with addition of the Green air filters. But any ways Im going to the Firebird race way tomorrow for the 1st time. I have never drag raced before but have been a spectator for some time now. What should my car run? As far as tires it has the stock 18" AMG wheels with some 295 nitto Envo's in the back. If any body on here lives in Az they should come tomorrow night its $20 and you can drag all night. Thanks

got family in town, otherwise i'd head out there with you. with the nice weather we've been having, you should be able to run 11.9x if you can get a decent launch. take esp off, drive around the waterbox, do a burnout just long enough to see smoke, and launch off of idle with a moderate mash instead of a stomp. with a great launch you should see low 1.7's for your 60ft time but be happy with anything in the 1.8's for your first time out.

good luck and let us know how it goes!!! ...and hit me up next time you go!

Usually I don't bother with Firebird unless it's a team race. Maybe it's better this time of year, but normally it's a mad house and maybe you might get 3 passes. Also track isn't prepped for the non team race nights. I would save your tires for Sunday at Speedworld Dragstrip. It's club day and usually the SECC is out there, so you might get to run with alot of other MB's. Or saturday night, because the track might be pretty good considering we have an ADRA race during the day saturday. Lots of rubber being laid down for the night.

If you get to firebird early, right when the doors open you can run a bunch of times before all the ricers show up.

Speedworld is open sat 9am and will have lanes for trophy and test n tune. Then Sunday is 9am for the club day, all test n tune lanes.

Friday may be good since the cooler temps makes a supercharger go fast......... Practice your launches when you get there, and then cool the car down for later to set your personal best.

not bad. firebird is always hit and miss as far as track prep...actually mostly miss unless there's a team or professional event.

Speaking of professional events. Later this month when the NHRA national time trials are running there, there is test n' tune available. It cost $100 bucks, but traction is guaranteed this day. If a 6000 hp funny car can hook up, I'd say the 55 should have no problems even with street tires. The national is in Feb. and if you guys have never witnessed a side by side pass with two blown nitro top fuelers your missing out.

yep, that and just after a pinks event are the best times to hit up firebird. i can cut consistent 1.71 60ft times on street tires when those events are in town.

Anyone know a good 18x9.5 or 18x10 wheel for a drag radial?

I would recommend a 9" or 9.5", no wider. Try to save weight if you can. If you can find an 8.5" a 255 will fit just fine.

Now just strictly a drag radial setup, go with a 16" combo if you can.

Sorry to hijack this thread, however I just moved to Scottsdale and I need some advice from you local guys!

I want to get my garage floor Epoxy / Urethane coated by a reputable company. Anyone have any recommendations as to who is the best. I want a real shiny finish with the quartz specks.

Thanks
Gary

I'll ask some of my contacts on the east side and let you know. Just ballpark should be around $2-$4 sq.ft.. New home may not need acid wash prep, older home may.
